Design principles • Identify performance need / gap • Analysis common needs across and between business sectors • Design learning in 5 credit multiples • Notional 50 hours study (10 weeks @ 5 hours/week) • Delivery via on-line medium with asynchronous tutor support • Ensure the ‘technology’ does not deter the learner • Use of design and development retreats / workshops

Principles for an e-portfolio based pedagogy for SMEs • Scaffold the e-portfolio • Include reflection on learning • Make it context sensitive • Make it easy to use / intuitive • Use to support formal / informal learning • Use to support bite-sized learning • Can be structured into larger awards • Needs to be transferable and portable

  4. Activity blog: Scaffolding learning Personal blog: Critical reflection Templates & Blogs Collaborative (group) blog: Learning community

Evaluation • Use of an external evaluator • Mid-unit evaluation • End of unit evaluation • Post workshop evaluation • Semi-structured interviews with all participants and stakeholders at end of project • Action research approach: 4 consecutive pilot units – learning from one fed in to subsequent pilots developed
