  2. importance • 1943 Is the year in which you can finally see the axis powers starting to fall apart. This is when the turning of the tide begins with multiple huge victories for the allies.

  3. The end of stalingrad • The battle of Stalingrad Is one of the most pivotal moments of world war II. It ends on Feb. 2nd 1943 with the surrender of the north Stalingrad force. The south had surrendered earlier. This leads to conscription in the Baltic states to replenish.

  4. Guaudal canal falls • Feb 2nd: the significance of this battle was Hendrickson airport. The Japanese were using this to cut off allied communications. So the allies used a surprise attack. The battle takes 6 months and ends in a huge allied victory.

  5. The month of may • The month of may is a huge defeat for the German U-boats. 43 u-boats are sunk compared to the 34 merchant vessels owned by the allies. For once the hunters become the hunted. This is largely due to radar equipment added to British aircraft. Admiral Karl Dunitz recalls all u-boats in the Atlantic. (like Jutland in WW1).

  6. The battle of kursk. • The biggest tank battle of history (to date!) • Also known as operation citadel this battle finishes Germans panzers in the east off. • This battle finishes off Germany's panzers. Which will end in Germany pushed out of Russia and it doesn't stop until Hitler is dead. • More than 1000 tanks fight just south of kursk

  7. Operation husky • The invasion of Sicily begins. It is the first major time paratroopers will be used and everyone is skeptical. But they prove to be worth their weight in gold. As they are extremely effective.

  8. The slapping incident • Although not a battle it can be considered a loss for the Americans as their top general is removed from duty. It turns into a huge victory for PTSD victims as the allies are now seen recognizing the disease and shows how important it is. This occurs on August 3rd, And is a huge embarrassment.

  9. Italy trades sides • Italy formally declares war on Germany. This means the south is almost captured meaning Mussolini is almost finished. This happens on oct. 13th.
