  3. Hispanics(or Latinos):are clustered in the southwest and exceed 1/3 of Arizona and New Mexico and Texas. African Americans: are clustered in the southeast. Compromise at least ¼ of the population in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, South Carolina and more than 1/3 in Mississippi. Asian American: are clustered in the west. The comprise more than 40% of the population in Hawaii. American Indians and Alaska Natives: live in 48 continental United States and most numerous areas they are in the southwest and the plain states. States/regions in which they are clustered

Hispanics (Latinos): they are absent on the south of the U.S. For example: Tennessee, Maine, and Mississippi African Americans: they are usually absent Northwest of the U.S. For example: Oregon, and Wyoming Asian Americans: They are absent in some parts throughout the U.S. For example, Arkansas, Maine, and North and South Dakota. American Indians and Alaska Natives: they are absent in on the south of the U.S map. For Example: New York, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky Regions they are mostly absent

  5. Ethiopia and Eritrea have been fighting for 30 years. For example Eritreans defeated the Ethiopians , but the fighting continued when they disputed over the location of the boarder and then Ethiopia defeated Eritrea and took control. Sudan in the south went to war because they were force to do traditions they weren’t comfortable with. For example, black Christians and animist ethnicities government forced them to convert the country into Muslim traditions. Somalia’s dictatorship ran the country and collapsed, and various clans and sub clans claimed control over portions of the country. Islamists militias claimed that some leaders were terrorist and forced the U.S to oppose against the Islamists. Ethnic conflicts

  6. Ethnicities have been transformed into nationalities because many people that have “self-rule” or the right to govern themselves, known as “self determinism”. Ethnicities transformed into nationalities

  7. Positive and Negative nationalism • Positive • They can’t over throw colonial rulers • Brings the nations together • Negative • Could lead to war, genocide, or ultra nationalism

  8. Nation-state: a state whose occupied by a ethnicity and transformed into a nationality. Multinational States: contains 2 ethnicities that are willing to co-exist with each others traditions peacefully. Ex: UK contains England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland Multi-ethnic states: A state that contains more than one ethnicity. Ex: USA Stateless nations: a nation in which the ethnic groups are not the majority population of any nation Ex: the Kurds-Turkey, Iraq, and Iran Vocabulary

  9. Race and Ethnicity are often confused. Skin color, hair type, and blood traits were once thought to be scientifically classifiable. One feature does matter to geographers and that is skin color. A persons color matters to geographers because they can distribute which in societies sort out where they reside, attend school and perform many other activities. Case studies

  10. There are 2 major museums describing the difference of Ethnic identities in the United States. One museum is the Detroit Institute of Arts, which collects Medieval European Artist. A nearby museum of African American history holds the nations largest exhibit to the history and culture of African American. CASE Studies
