States Drunk Driving Drowsy Driving New Jersey is the only state against drowsy driving called MaggiesLaw Maggies Law: if someone is killed during a drowsy driving accident then the person is convicted of vehicular homicide and serves jail time • All states define a BAC of .08 as a crime. • 42 states have a duration of a suspended license for violation • If convicted all states have a ignition interlock key (Breathalyzer)

Characteristics of a drowsy driving crash • Normally occurs during late night/early morning or midafternoon (AKA anytime) • Crash is likely to be serious • Person does not release accelerator. • Does not know what they are doing • Does not try to avoid the crash • Person can fall asleep for 4 seconds without knowing it

  5. Common Countermeasures Work Misguided Rolling down window Turning up radio Getting out of the car to walk Snacking/chewing gum • Caffine • Coffee:2 cups = 1 hour • Soda • Pills • Nicotine (Not Recommended)

  6. Conclusion • Drowsy driving is just as or even more dangerous as driving drunk • Make sure to get sleep before a long trip • Take frequent stops • Stop and take a nap (20mins)if your even slightly feel fatigued
