  1. Hadronic Barrel Calorimeter Response to Cosmics • Uses tracker tracks – propagation to the inner and outer radius of the HCAL barrel • 45 M cosmic triggers B=3.8 T • Pµ = 5-100 GeV/c • Fit error < 3% • Path length correction applied • Signal is normalized to the response at one • particular momentum value (25 GeV/c) using a fit • to dE/dX vs. Pm from data. • Gaps in the plot due to lack of horizontal muons. HB Plus RMS 2.9% HB Minus RMS 3.8% Blue: HB plus Red: HB minus Mean response for HB+/HB- is in good agreement • Muon response as a function of iφ • Iphi-sectors having replaced readout modules are excluded from the plots

  2. Supplementary Plots

  3. Muon response measurement – selection and propagation Uses Tracker track – propagation to the inner and outer radius of the HCAL barrel • Require 1 phi-sector (5deg) to be crossed by the muon • Propagated muon to be in the inner 80% of the tower width in the phi-sector • Path length correction applied • Signal is normalized to one momentum value using fit to dE/dX vs. Pmfrom data (from one particular HPD)  • Signal is defined as the mean obtained from the partial Gaussian fit of the maximum of the energy distribution (in two iterations). • number crossed towers <=5 • R(DT-TK)<15cm on outer radius. • Quality cuts applied on TK and DT tracks. • 45M cosmic triggers at B=3.8T and non-ZS HCAL are used • Total # muons selected: 80 k and # muons/phi-sector > 100 Fit for the Pm correction (1 HPD) S(Pm)=p0*ln(Pm)+p1 Ecorr(P)=E(P)xcorr(P) corr(p)=a/(p0lnP+p1), where a is a constant defined by a=p0ln(25 GeV)+p1 3
