  1. BUSINESS JOURNALISM SIXTH SEMESTER RUIA COLLEGE LECTURE SIX

  2. So.. What were the topics in the last class in which u guys slept while I mumbled and fumbled and tumbled??

  3. The topics covered so far… • Relationship between a common man and business news • What is Business Journalism • Who is a Business Journalist • Traits of a Business Journalist • Sectors in Business Journalism • Finance Ministry • RBI • SEBI

  4. Other topics… • The SENSEX • How is it calculated • How does it move by just small news events and developments across the globe!!

  5. Today’s Agenda To learn about the most Important and most special sector in Business Journalism. A sector that every great Business Journalist fantasizes covering. In fact, it is simple… One who gets to track it – LUCKY. One who doesn’t get – UNLUCKY.

  6. THE BADSHAAH OF BUSINESS JOURNALISM STOCK MARKETS

  7. Stock Market Journalist is the Shah Rukh Khan among all Business Journalists…. But why?? First, the glamour part…. It gives you a kick as you are at the helm of everything… You are the most sought after Business Reporter in the entire Business Bureau

  8. Second, the serious part… For that, Let’s assume a discussion between a couple of hard working, innocent, sweet students of third year BMM from Ruia College

  9. Ritika: Hey guys, do you even think a Business Journalist is that important? I feel what Promit says is all gas. Just because he is a business journalist, he is filled with an inflated ego about business journalism.

  10. Saylee: No yaar, it seems he knows because he is in the field.

  11. Khushi: Ohh, forget it!! We need to finish the syllabus on time and that is most important!! Meenakshi: No, but understanding its importance is also important. Who knows some of us might just land up in a business daily or a channel tomorrow.

  12. Veena: Yes, you are right. We must know. Know what, I love the stock markets… In fact I have a fair understanding of the stocks and shares and I know what fun it is… What do you have to say Prakruti?

  13. Prakruti: Yawnnnnn…. Zzzzzzzzzz.

  14. Priyanka: Listen guys, I think it is important because he/she deals with people like us who have a modest amount of financial literacy and want to invest. Vinaya: Financial Literacy???? What is that?? Mayur, any answers??

  15. Mayur: NEVERMINDDDD!!! Divya: Financial literacy!! I know…. Its about knowing what stock markets are all about and how they move. Its about knowing some basic things like the RBI, the SEBI, the Finance Ministry. Right Prakruti?

  16. Prakruti: Yawnnnnn…. Zzzzzzzzzz. Mayur: Just because I said I NEVERMINDDD… doesn’t mean I don’t know… just that NEVERMINDDD…!!! Prakruti: Hey guys, same here.. Just that I look sleepy, I am not sleepy.. I understand everything pretty well.

  17. Saylee: Enough of dilly dallying.. Where is this discussion heading?? For God’s sake, we are financially literate and like us almost everybody is and that’s the reason why people invest. So what’s next?? Tejal: That means that a Business Newspaper writes for those who invest. Right Promit??

  18. Promit: Yawnnn.. Zzzzzzzzzz Priyanka: le, professor hi so gaya.. Now what?? No problem, I will lead. I feel since a Business Reporter is the one whose target audience is those who usually invest, therefore, a Reporter who covers the markets is the one who is in the forefront.

  19. Maitreyee: Right you are. And I feel it is important that we learn the basic qualities of a Stock Market Reporter. Khushi: Right, in fact I have seen this topic in some last year’s question papers also… lets figure out and jot them down. .

  20. Archana: Listen, just because I am quiet so far doesn’t mean I will continue to be quiet. I feel the very important quality is an unending interest in the share markets and its ups and downs Apoorva: And I feel it is basic knowledge about the markets and its influencing factors. Jst like Priyanka said, he should be financially literate.

  21. Promit: Awareness of some basic terms used to denote companies health such as.. EPS, P/E ratios, call and put options or long and short. Priyanka: Yeiii.. Professor jaaggaya!!

  22. Ritika: A very strong network and contacts with people like… Promit: Like brokerage houses, fund managers, portfolio management companies, some HNIs, investment bankers.

  23. Saylee: Should be eternally eager to increase domain knowledge. Vinaya: Should be able to write attractive and readable copies. Ritika: Should be aware of the regulatory systems like the RBI, SEBI

  24. Khushi: Other important sectors like the banking sector, awareness about other leading global indices and their impact on domestic capital markets. Meenakshi: Should have knowledge about the debt markets, mutual funds, ULIPS etc.

  25. Mayur: By the way guys you are forgetting the most important thing… he should read, read and read… should keep himself abreast with all possible developemnts happening in the business fraternity in the world. Promit: Yawnnn… Zzzzzzzzz.

  26. Priyanka: Oh ho.. Fir so gaya!!!
