Background for this Meeting • PC & GB meetings of December 11-13, 2017 • The new IFLA environment • SG – new focus on professional units and strengthening our role; need full engagement • Global Vision process underpins this • New web site, membership survey • Continue and improve communications Agreement to review governance and structure of IFLA? • PC paper 17.12.2.2 – Dynamic Professional Units – “how to work smarter” • Any interest in discussing this in a pre-vision call (February?)

December 2017 Discussions & Decisions • Congress evaluation – frequent comments: • Too many presentations in short time • Too little time for discussion • Too many speakers who are not disciplined to speak to their time slots • Need more papers in advance in IFLA DL, please • Congress is way too long, expensive • IFLA will review the IFLA programme setup • Lightning talks on last day?

  4. December 2017 Discussions & Decisions • Project & project funding: • Going well • 50,000Euro budget once again • SIGs: • Review: postponed so that sponsoring sections can review by August 2018 • Approved SIG on Global and Disaster Health • Returned Library Publishing SIG for more information

December 2017 Discussions & Decisions • Structural – some concerns about IFLA Rules not consistently applied: • Co-Chairs (unofficial, not in Rules) • Elections outside of physical meetings: correct SC members contacted for voting? Procedure clear? • Non-members added to committees • Advisors, Senior advisors, friends (not in Rules). • How to recognize those who are not on committees? • Discussions will continue

  6. Preservation Survey • Project launched in 2016 (PAC auspices) • Results recently tabulated • Working group proposed to report by April 2018 • e.g., PAC; Committee on Standards; Preservation & Conservation Section; Cataloguing, Rare books, AV, new media, and others.

December 2017 Discussions & Decisions • Coaching pilot? • Continuing Professional Development & Workplace Learning Section (CPDWL) interested in mentoring program (greater experience + lesser) transformed into a coaching program (individual already has answers within them but benefits from discussion, etc.) • Will do a pilot in KL • Will explain program to all officers who might want to work with them and do their own

  8. December 2017 Discussions & Decisions Policy for R&R Remuneration for work performed under certain circumstances Reimbursement when people use their own funds to carry out IFLA work

December 2017 Discussions & Decisions • IFLA support for Units at WLIC • On writing objectives & action plan • On communications • On leadership and training • Activities: • Officers’ brief: 3 hours • Division Leadership Forums 1.5 hours • Officers Capacity Building, repeated, how to run a successful unit, etc. • Communications Sessions • HQ staff do Clinics, one on one

Assignments in Process Logos and one-page overviews Committee members to fill out data forms (enables contact) Annual reports submitted to Joanne & Division Chairs – missing 5 end of December Action Plans – missing 1 end of December Plan to attend Visioning Meeting March 20-21 IFLA awards – identify potential nominees for IFLA Scroll of Appreciation? Do we need a new award?
