Chris kahl a musical journey through florida

Chris Kahl“A Musical Journey Through Florida”

  • Pascua Florida is a Spanish term that means flowery festival or feast of flowers. It usually refers to the Easter season

Easter Sunday

In the year of our Lord 1513

Easter Sunday feast of the flowers

At the helm of San Cristoval Juan Ponce de Leon

Land in our sight now we sail to our fate

Chorus

St. John’s River lead us to the Fountain of Youth

As we search for gold we search for truth

Glory to Spain our flag in the sand

We claim this soil for King Ferdinand

Strange eyes upon us like daggers across the bay

But God is with us on this Eater Sunday

Chorus

Discovered new land Easter Sunday

Put our flag in the sand on Easter Sunday

Pascua Florida Easter Sunday

Oh Henry!

Oh Henry oh Henry take me to paradise please

In a golden railcar down that palm lined street

Goodbye Standard Oil leave behind the boardroom seat

Cashing out the barons’ chips to build the sunshine dream

Oh Henry oh Henry where will that engine lead

Mr. Flagler’s heading south with the FEC

Take the night train down to Whitehall from New York to West Palm Beach

It’s the party of the season in the lap of luxury

Oh Henry oh Henry I can see that shining sea

From the big bay window of my penthouse suite

Next stop is Fort Dallas where it doesn’t freeze

Julia Tuttle says come on down we’ll make history

Oh Henry oh Henry cross that channel deep

At Marathon it’s a seven mile leap

Forget the swarming mosquitoes and the stifling humidity

Onward till we meet lands’ end at the bottom of the Keys

Oh Henry oh Henry your vision’s come to be

There’s a highway running out across the sea

Oh Henry oh Henry you lived to see your dream

That railroad’s running out across the sea

Native Land

Been a long time coming knew it couldn’t last

So long Big Cypress see ya River of Grass

Tried to fight the white man couldn’t match his gun

Hiding out in the swampland with nowhere left to run

So all the way to Oklahoma the tears fill my hands

As I say goodbye to my native land

For years we lived in harmony built the Turtle Mound

All the tribes together now we’re Seminole bound

Down at Withlacoochee Osceola’s spirit lead

Tigertail and Bowlegs never forget the dead

So all the way to Oklahoma the tears fill my hands

As I say goodbye to my native land

All the way to Oklahoma I make my final stand

As I say goodbye to my native land

Florida citrus big squeeze
Florida Citrus “Big Squeeze”

Vitamin c
Vitamin C

  • Good for your health

Big Squeeze

Have a tasty Navel a juicy Tangerine

Tempt me with a Honeybelle oh it tastes so sweet

The time’s a right for picking fruit off the orange tree

I want a little taste of heaven so go on and give me a big squeeze

Those tasty Temples are a little gift from above

Indian River Citrus fruit it’s the one I love

Give me a glass of Florida’s finest juice it’s full of Vitamin C

I want a little taste of heaven so go on and give me a big squeeze

Ruby red and Grapefruit too have one for me

Lord thank the Spanish for planting all those glorious seeds

The sunshine’s ripened the Valencias all through the grove

Have a slice of paradise called a Tangelo

So if you want the freshest Florida juice it’s as easy as 1,2,3

If you’re longing for a little taste of heaven just say give me a big squeeze

Go on and give me a big squeeze

Steamboating the captain steve bravo
Steamboating“The Captain Steve Bravo”

The Captain Steve Bravo

Steve Bravo was a captain intrepid were his ways

The St. Lucie was the steamboat on which he spent his days

Paid by Mr. Flagler but for no extra charge

He’d tell a joke to the passengers then he’d give ‘em a good yarn

Yo ho Steve Bravo let that steamer sail

From Titusville to Jupiter and all down the Indian River

Won’t you give us a tall tale

Steve Bravo was a legend he saved a farmer from a bear

He heard his cries from miles away with his ear pinned in the air

He boasted of his fishing skills and passengers tried to learn

To make Pompano jump right in the boat he’d hang a lantern from the stern

Yo ho Steve Bravo let that steamer sail

From Titusville to Jupiter and all down the Indian River

Won’t you give us a tall tale

Perhaps his tallest tale was one he lived to tell

About the St. Lucie and those big hurricane swells

It was feared there were no survivors and the boat lost to the storm

But Steve showed at his own funeral and he told ‘em not to mourn

Yo ho Steve Bravo let that steamer sail

From Titusville to Jupiter and all down the Indian River

Won’t you give us a tall tale

Rocket Boys

Explorer’s on the launch pad Sputnik already gone

Push that little red button cause now the race is on

Seven had the right stuff to take up Mercury

Von Braun built the vessels to sail uncharted seas

Kennedy pointed to the sky said we’re going to the moon

Before the decade’s out we’ll make that true

Stand on the shores of Cape Canaveral looking up to the blue

Let’s see what those rocket boys can do

Shepard took the first ride and Glenn went round the earth

Being in the new frontier felt like the day of birth

Gemini took a walk outside Saturn V stood so tall

Armstrong made the big leap for us all

The stars and stripes are hanging above the footprints on the moon

The Eagle’s landed and oh my what a view

Stand on the shores of Cape Canaveral looking up to the blue

Let’s see what those rocket boys can do

Viking crawled the red land and the shuttle took to flight

The universe can’t hide no more so ride Sally Ride

Challenger Columbia Apollo we remember you all

Sometimes when you climb so high you’ve got to take a fall

Look at the stars in the night sky I think how far we flew

All the hopes and dreams now come true

Stand on the shores of Cape Canaveral looking up to the blue

Let’s see what those astronauts can do

There’s nothing that those astronauts can’t do

  • Today’s the day!

Silver and Gold

The fleet set sail from Cuba 1715 in July

Bringing riches back to Spain

Before they crossed the Atlantic the wind and rain brought panic

They got caught out in a hurricane

Chorus

The silver and the gold it lies beneath the ocean floor

Waiting for someone to bring the treasure back to shore

Some it has been found but there’s much more I’m told

In the ocean lies the silver and the gold

Many died in the raging storm but some survived and swam ashore

Bringing all that they could save

Time forgot the legend of the ships buried below the sand

Under the rolling waves

Chorus

One day a man named Wagner found some coins along the beach

Recalled the legend he’d been told

Then along came a man named Fisher who always said today’s the day

We’re gonna find that motherload

Chorus

Dodgertown spring training
“Dodgertown”Spring Training

Dodgertown

The grass is cut and the lines are chalked in sunny Vero Beach

The kids crowd right up to the fence their heroes within reach

Players on the dugout steps waiting for the call

The ump steps up behind home plate and yells “Play ball!”

Dodgertown Dodgertown now spring training’s here

The hot dogs and the peanuts and the ice cold beer

Dodgertown Dodgertown give ‘em a big cheer

Cause opening day they’ll be in L.A. but it’s always Dodger Blue here

Filling out my scorecard and wearing my Dodger cap

Checkin out the rookies as they come up to bat

7th inning stretch time we all stand and sing

If they play solid ball and give ‘em hell come the fall they’ll be wearing a Series ring

Jackie, Duke, and Sandy and the one’s that we all know

First took the field at Holman before they played in the big show

Ebbets Field Chavez Ravine it’s Dodger Blue they bleed

But it all starts here in March each year in the Grapefruit League

Dodgertown Dodgertown now spring training’s here

The hot dogs and the peanuts and the ice cold beer

Dodgertown Dodgertown give ‘em a big cheer

Cause opening day they’ll be in L.A. but it’s always Dodger Blue here

Hit and run bunt and squeeze gotta get those runners home

The crowd sits on the edge of their seats because the game is close

Now it’s bottom nine and crunch time the closer’s coming in

But with the crack of the bat home run! that’s that hooray the Dodger’s win

Dodgertown Dodgertown we got baseball here

The hot dogs and the peanuts and the ice cold beer

Dodgertown Dodgertown give ‘em a big cheer

Cause opening day they’ll be in L.A. but it’s always Dodger Blue here
