  3. History • Collected Teacher Schedules • Studied structure of Teacher Schedules • Surprise!!!! • Academic subjects • 40-50 minute range • Including ESE classes • Pullouts: • 40-50 minute range • Shorter 20-25 minute range

  4. Establish Time Schedule • Seven periods • 330 Instructional minutes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday • 255 Instructional minutes on Wednesday • Time parameters set: • 4 Forty-five minute periods • 3 Fifty minute period • Key: Standard beginning and ending times. • Hold to the basic times • Applies to ESE, resource and pullout classes as well

  5. Required Time Periods • Lunch • Reading Period (2 periods in length) • Specials • Difficult for schools to develop schedule • Rotational schedule

  6. Specials Rotational Schedule

  7. Major Considerations • Spread the two period Reading classes throughout the day. • Schedule teachers by grade level.

  8. Exceptional Student Classes • ESE classes must adhere to the same rules. • It works for OT, PT, Speech and Language Teachers • Example • 6 45-50 Minutes periods AND/OR • 12 20-25 minute periods per day.

  9. Flexibility with Period Time

  10. Extended Math Period

  11. Double Period Math

  12. Resource Classes • Co-Teach • Pullouts • Other In-Class Instruction • Develop a consistent scheduling method.

  13. What Happens behind the Closed Door? • Provide flexible time as possible. • Do we really care within the self-contained classroom?

  14. Logic for Loading Student Schedules • Teacher Course Section Numbers match classroom Teacher Number • Specials Teachers have multiple courses with Section Numbers matching every Teacher Number. • Assign homebase Teacher Number to each student. • Program matches Teacher Course Section Numbers with the student’s homebase Teacher Number.

  15. Departmentalized Variation

  16. Interesting • Interesting mixture of structure and chaos. • In-class and Pullout Resource classes almost impossible to schedule.

  17. 2007-2008 Possibility
