  7. The Cable Myth Several myths exist in the advertising community regarding Cable Television and the Hispanic Viewer/Consumer. While Cable penetration in San Diego is high - and cable coverage is important - the facts are not what others would have you believe. • Fact: Nearly 70% of all Hispanic households in San Diego County are located in the South-County. • Fact: Hispanic household - cable penetration in the South County is 38%. • Fact: Many Hispanic households do not want Cable. It is not an issue of affordability…it is programming availability. The leading television networks in Mexico offer several broadcast channels that can be viewed in south San Diego County. Once hooked to cable, only one of these networks can be viewed. When hooking up to cable, Hispanic households actually give up programming options. • Fact: Cable penetration levels for South-County Hispanic households have remained flat for several years.

  8. Nearly 70% of all San Diego County Hispanics live in the ”South County.” Hispanic Cable penetration in the South County is easily the lowest of all county geographical areas. (38%) More Spanish language Television stations can be viewed in South County via broadcast than via cable.
