1. Spring 2004-Introduce DFI Legislation

3. August 4, 2004- DFI Act Signed into Law as P.A. 93-0862

4. December 7, 2004 DFI Program Board Appointments

  • Combined two State of Illinois minority graduate fellowship programs

  • Charged IBHE to create a policymaking program board

The Program Board Shall Include:

  • 21 members from across all sectors and geographic regions

  • Individuals in leadership positions at institutions of higher education

  • Individuals with significant backgrounds in higher education diversity issues

The Program Board Shall Include:

  • Representatives from Doctoral degree granting institutions

  • Community college representation

  • Racial minorities who are traditionally underrepresented in post-secondary education

  • FY 2005 - 196 Fellowship Awards (127 continuing fellows and 69 new fellows)

  • Ongoing leadership of the institutional representatives at participating campuses

  • IBHE Staff and SIUC Staff continues to provide leadership and administrative support for the program during transitional period
