  2. The Great Depression1930’s Began with the stock market crash in 1929 (Black Tuesday) One out of four Americans were unemployed. Banks, stores, factories closed.

  6. Migrant Workers Migrant worker: a person who moves from place to place to get work, esp. a farm laborer who harvests crops seasonally.

  7. Dust Bowl • . The Dust Bowl of the 1930s lasted about a decade. Its primary area of impact was on the southern Plains. The northern Plains were not so badly effected, but nonetheless, the drought, windblown dust and agricultural decline were no strangers to the north. In fact the agricultural devastation helped to lengthen the Depression whose effects were felt worldwide. The movement of people on the Plains was also profound. Nelson, Cary. "The Great Depression."   8. Very poor farming conditions left migrants out of work in the plains states. Because of the Dust Bowl many migrant workers went to California to find work.
