  4. “The CIPD in their 2003 annual recruitment and retention study reported that the use of all types of assessments had increased dramatically during 2003. Most notably, the use of assessment centres increased by over 70% in a year, and are now used by almost 50% of all UK companies.”

  5. Tests look at three basic areas • Abilities: your capacity to work with numbers, words, diagrams and systems. • Attainment: what you actually know about an area. • Personality: how you are typically likely to act, covering motivation, values and reaction to authority

  7. Test must be… • Reliable in that it is consistent in what it measures • Valid in that it does identify the attributes required • Are the tests fair? • Appropriate in how they are evaluated against the criteria for selection

  8. Basic rules … • Feedback – feedback should always be given. If not offered, you must request it (part of their licensing agreement) • Openness – you must be aware that tests will be used and the procedure explained in advance. • Confidentiality – access to test results should be restricted to relevant parties Data protection Act)
