  10. KEYTERMS DEFINED 1 • TECHNOLOGY- Simply defined, is the use of tools, materials, and processes that people use to meet human needs and wants. (Ex. IPOD, Cell Phones) • INVENTION- New Technology. (Ex. IPOD, Digital TV) • INNOVATION- Improved Technology. (Ex. Laptops, Cell Phones) • CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM- A system that can respond to changes and adjust its inputs and outputs. (Ex. Bicycle steering, Car speed) • OPEN LOOP SYSTEM- A system that has no way of monitoring or adjusting itself. (Ex. Train is either off or on, Light switch) • COMPARATOR- compares the actual output of a system with the desired output or result. (Ex. thermostat, mercury) • PROCESS-The action part of a system. (Ex. Heater, Electricity ) • CONTROLLER- A device that turns a process on or off, or that changes it in some way. (Ex, Gas pedal, remote ) • FEEDBACK- Information about a system’s output that is used to adjust the system. (Ex. One, Two) • Timer- a device for indicating or measuring elapsed time. (Ex. Stopwatch, )

Mouse pads, sublimation transfer to wood) • FAC SIMILE- Electronic transmission of text and pictures. (Ex. Texting on a phone, Sending a fax through a fax machine) • MP3- A digital recording technology that reduces the size of computer files containing music so they can be more easily moved or stored. (Ex. iPod, iPod touch) • COMPUTER-Any electronic machine that stores, processes, and retrieves, information. (Ex. PC, Laptop) • COMPUTER VIRUS- A software program that attaches itself to other programs. (Ex. Mydoom Worm, Melissa Virus) • FREEHAND- How sketching is usually done, without drawing tools or instrument. (Ex. Freeform on computer , sketching with only pencil and paper) • Alloy- A mixture of two or more metals. (Ex. Brass, Copper) • Internet- A worldwide network of computer servers. (Ex. Firefox, Safari) • Laser- a very strong burst of light energy. (Ex. Light laser, cutting laser)
