  3. regular • Drop ending, add ending AR endings: ER/IR endings: -é -amos -í -imos -aste -asteis -iste -isteis -ó -aron -ió -ieron

  4. -car, -gar, -zar In the yo form these verbs have a spelling change to perserve their sound: -car -qué (ca says K, ce says S) -gar -gué (ga says G, ge says H) -zar -cé (z is half a letter – itnever appears with e or i) “Watch out for the “Sleazy-G” (CZG)”

  5. i-y i changes to y when between 2 other vowels These verbs end with double vowels oír (to hear)leer (to read) oí oímos leí leímos oíste oísteis leíste leísteis oyó oyeron leyó leyeron (…there are 5 verbs – leave room)

  6. i-y Caer (to fall) Super í to sound alone by another Caí caímos vowel except u; Caíste caísteis i splits to y between 2 vowels. Cayó cayeron *creer Incluir (to include)Contribuir (to contribute) Incluí incluimos contribuí contribuimos Incluiste incluisteis contribuiste contribuisteis Incluyó incluyeron contribuyó contribuyeron *destruir

Stem changers Sandal verbs (ir stem-changers are a pain in the “boot”) For a verb to stem-change in preterit: 1. it must be an –ir verb 2. it must stem-change in the present. 3. it must be 3rd person (él or ellos form) The new stem change is ei and ou (…8 examples – write the 4 in black to have one of each kind)

  14. Endings for u- and i-stems -e -imos -iste -isteis -o -*ieron (NO ACCENTS)
