  1. Navigation Structure • See related Excel file. • Move subdomains and non-tangent.com domains (except datacove.net) under www.tangent.com: • medicalcomputer.tangent.com -> tangent.com/healthcare • cartbatteries.com -> tangent.com/healthcare/cart-batteries • tcnoc.com -> datacove.net/cloud-spam-filtering • powerhawk.org -> tangent.com/pc-power-management • This will accomplish (optimize) a clear content hierarchy for search engines and users. • This will reflect content hierarchy in URLs. All old URLs should be 301-redirected to new versions. • Need to create two new category pages: industrial and business. • Need to link top categories in navigation:

  2. Remove footer links Category pages are crawlable from navigation, so footer links are unnecessary.

  3. Breadcrumbs • Move breadcrumbs from the footer to the top of the page. • Underline breadcrumb items so they appear as links. • Replace “Tangent” with “Home”. Mark up breadcrumbs with rich snippets: “When you mark up breadcrumb information in the body of a web page, Google can identify it and use it to understand and present the information on your pages in our search results.” http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=185417

  4. H1 Tag optimization H1 tag is an important signal to search engines about content hierarchy on a page and also an important keyword opportunity. There are pages with multiple h1 tags and there are pages with no h1 tags. • Recommendation: • Use h1s for the most important keyword-rich header on a page. • All h1 tags should be unique. Do not use h1s for a company name. • There should be only one h1 per page.

  5. XML Sitemap Tangent.com XML Sitemap is 404: http://www.tangent.com/sitemap.xml Recommendation: Create and submit XML sitemap to help Google crawl the site. We can build this once the URL structure has been decided/approved.

  6. Duplicate Content – URL Normalization Both www and non-www URLs resolve across all of datacove.net and tangent.com: Search engines see these URLs as different pages: http://datacove.net http://www.datacove.net This creates duplicate content issues. Recommendation: 301 redirect all non-www URLs to their www versions on both www.tangent.com and www.datacove.net.

  7. Duplicate Content 2 – URL Normalization Both directory and index.php/index.html URLs resolve. http://www.tangent.com/t_minipc/ http://www.tangent.com/t_minipc/index.php http://www.datacove.net/ http://www.datacove.net/index.php http://www.datacove.net/dcmail/ http://www.datacove.net/dcmail/index.html Search engines see URLs above as different pages, which created duplication. Recommendation: 301 redirect all index.php/index.html URLs to directory URLs, e.g. http://www.datacove.net/index.php --(301 redirect)--> http://www.datacove.net/

  8. Pages with duplicate Title and Description Meta Tags • Tangent.com: 21 pages with duplicate title and descriptions tags • DataCove.net: 22 pages with duplicate title and descriptions tags • See Excel for details. • “Quote” and “Evaluate” URL parameters create duplicate pages: • http://www.tangent.com/t_minipc/ordereval.php?evaluateid=Rugged%20Mini%20UT • http://www.tangent.com/t_minipc/buynow.php?quoteid=Rugged%20Mini%20UT Title tag is the most important on-page SEO element and should not be duplicated. Meta description tag is important for gaining click-throughs from search pages. Recommendation: All pages should have unique and keyword rich title tags. Title tags should not be longer 70 characters (with spaces). Insert most important keywords in the beginning and put your company name at the end. Recommendation: Block the “Quote” and “Evaluate” URL s in Robots.txt

  9. Missing resources that are linked to from numerous pages: Recommendation: Remove from the Source Code all references to unavailable files to reduce the number of HTTP requests. Smaller number of HTTP requests reduces load times and could improve rankings.

  10. Highlight or Bold or Emphasize, the current page in auxiliary navigation Users unable to determine what page they are on within categories:

  11. Incorrect Redirect These pages are redirected using the 302 Temporary Redirect. http://www.tangent.com/webhawk4 http://www.tangent.com/tablets http://www.tangent.com/virtual-desktop http://www.datacove.net/dcmail Always use 301 Permanent Redirect for permanent redirection.

  12. Markup error in the meta description tag on http://www.datacove.net/datacovecf/ page: Broken link: Page: http://www.datacove.net/email_archive_warranty.php Links to: http://www.datacove.net/explore/contact.php
