  2. COMPOSITE VOLCANOES This type of volcano has both pyroclastic ash layers and lava flows. These volcanoes are steep sided near the summit but decrease in slope at the base.

  3. COMPOSITE VOLCANOES Mt. St. Helen's, Tambora, Krakatoa  and Mt. Fuji are examples of composite (strato) volcanoes.

  4. SHIELD VOLCANOES Long, gently sloping volcanoes that have a low rounded profile. Eruptions are usually not explosive. Lava from underlying chambers may pour from vents across the surface. Made up of Basaltic lava flows.

  5. SHIELD VOLCANOES Kilauea and Mauna Loa in Hawaii are examples of shield volcanoes.

  6. CINDER CONE VOLCANOES Rarely grow to 1,000 feet tall.

  7. CINDER CONE VOLCANOES Paricutin Volcano in Mexico is a Cinder Cone Volcano

  8. After an eruption, or draining of a magma chamber, a volcano’s crater may collapse and form a giant opening called a Caldera. The caldera can be 1 - 100 km in diameter. When filled with water it becomes a caldera lake. Most explosive of Earth's volcanoes. CALDERA VOLCANO

  9. CALDERA VOLCANO

  10. CALDERA VOLCANO Santorini Island in Greece is a Caldera Volcano!

  11. CALDERA VOLCANO

  12. CALDERA VOLCANO Crater Lake, Oregon is the deepest lake in the world. It is a caldera volcano!
