Panther Time Mission:

Building Community, Connections, and School Pride

Did you know?

  • Did you know that over 40% of 9th graders at CHS fail at least one class in the first semester of high school?

  • Did you know that by the 1st semester of 10th grade, over 200 students at CHS have 45 credits or less (and that is after attending summer school)?

  • Did you know that last year, after meeting with at-risk 9th grade students one time, 5% went from failing two classes the first semester to passing all classes?

Imagine what we could accomplish

with Panther Homeroom once a week.

What are some of your questions about Panther Homeroom?

What do you think might be some benefits with Panther Homeroom?

Possible BENEFITS:

  • Increased sense of school pride and spirit

  • Every student has one additional adult that monitors their school progress

  • Kids develop relationships with students with whom they wouldn’t typically associate

  • Provides an opportunity to teach skills that are difficult to integrate into the regular curriculum (i.e., 4-year-plan, job readiness, community service, dangers of bullying, etc.)

  • Improve attendance and decrease tardiness

School Site Waiver – One Year Commitment

  • As the teacher workday is subject to the collective bargaining process it may not be unilaterally changed. . . (multiple pages follow)

    In A Nutshell:

There must be an 75% approval vote by the staff each year.

Time-line Next Steps:

  • February 1st proposal due to Site Contract Waiver Committee

  • End of February Site Contract Waiver Committee Decision reports back to CHS

  • March 1st – March 15th Window to hold Staff Vote

  • March 15th results due to D.O.

  • Planning Committee established to develop resources for each grade level
