  2. Morning Work (7:22 to 8:00) • Sharpen pencils • Place your reading notebooks on the back table for grading of previous assignments • Take out your spelling words, find a partner and quiz each other on the spelling words • Spelling test will begin at 8:00 (on the dot)

  3. Spelling Test • Take out a piece of paper • Fold it “hotdog” style • Write the following on the top right corner of your paper • Your name • the subject (Reading) • today’s date October 24, 2011 • Write the title – Spelling • Skip a line • Number from 1 to 20 • Wait quietly and patiently until everyone is ready to begin.

Today’s goals and objectives • Reading: Students will be able to determine the author’s purpose and bias when examining text. • Reading: Students will earn 80% or higher on the spelling test. • Language Arts: Students will complete the editing portion of the writing process and further polish their scary story (narrative essay). • Language Arts: Students will prepare a second draft of said story. • Math: Students will master prime factorization of composite numbers.

  5. Mobile Computer Lab • Information about its purpose and potential uses • Instruction about the care and usage of the netbooks • Specific instruction about the Do’s and Don’ts when using the netbooks • Consequences • Off-task computer usage • Damaging the computer • Incomplete assignments

  6. Printing • If, and only when, you are given permission to print. • Click PRINT. • Look for the box with the current printer’s name on it, and click the down arrow.

Time to hand out the computers • Stay in your seats at all times to avoid doing anything, which might damage the computers. • I will hand you a computer. • Turn on the computer and log in. • Username: oses0541 Password: school • Go to our class webpage • www.myteacherpages.com/webpages/foster • Once on the website, save it to FAVORITES for future use.

Start with number 1 continue in ascending order (counting upwards). • When you are finished with this website, you may do FCAT Explorer.   11. Successmaker Prep (9:20) • Stop what you are doing • Turn off your computers • Go to START and log off correctly • Get your paper and pencil ready at your seat • Prepare yourself for the train • The train will begin in at 9:23 (rain or shine)

  12. Language Arts (10:00-11:00) • Peer grade one person’s scary story (written on Friday) and hand it back to the author • When you receive your copy in return, use that “sloppy copy” to create a second draft on the netbook • Typing up your story should take approximately 30 minutes

Second Draft Expectations • Approved Fonts: • Ariel 12 pt. or Times New Roman 12 pt. • In the top right hand corner • your name, Language Arts, and October 24, 2011 • Writing focus • Interesting title • descriptive details • complete sentences with a subject and predicate • capitalization of first word in sentence • correct end punctuation • use at least two idioms • no contractions, unless used as part of a quotation • Include at least one graphic

  14. 10-minutes • Save your work on your flashdrive….Don’t have a flashdrive, then ask a neighbor if you may save it on theirs. • Run spell and grammar check • Read your essay to someone else and listen for any areas which do not sound correct • Make last minute revisions to your essay • Print a copy • Mount your paper on a piece of colored construction paper • Turn it in (black letter tray)

Social studies/language arts(11:00-11:10) • OBJECTIVE: TSW analyze major aspects of European Exploration to the new world. • Student will be grades by answering a series of online questions, which will be sent to the teacher for grading. • Go to www.weblessons.com • Group: the panthers Username:Student ID • Password: Date of Birth (MMYYY Y)

WEBLESSONS TUTORIAL • When you are successfully logged onto the Weblessons website …wait patiently for further instructions • We will review how to navigate this website. • You will follow the directions on your own. • Your answers to STUDY QUESTIONS, QUIZ and PROJECT will let me know if you comprehend the material. • The PROJECT is a persuasive essay to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Will they pay for your exploration? It depends on how persuasive you are in your essay. • Four grades will be extracted from this weblesson: study questions, quiz, project and participation.

Teamwork/leadership skills (1:30-2:05) • At 2:00 prepare for the departure • Computers are shutdown correctly and ready for Mrs. Foster to bring them to the mobile cart. • Homework written in your planner. Mrs. Foster will come around and stamp your planner. • Letters to go home…in your planner • Graded papers in your desk go home. Put them in your planner • When everyone is finished, we will go outside and make chalk treasure lines on the sidewalk.

Homework in your planner • Monday October 24, 2011 Spelling alphabetical order (15 minutes) Study spelling words (15 minutes) Persuasive essay to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella (Due on Thursday. You will present your essay to the class. Your fellow students will decide whether or not you deserve funding to explore the new world.) (50 minutes) Edit your scary story . Staple your sloppy copy to the back of your updated copy. (20-40 minutes) Be sure to have your name, Language Arts and the date in the top right-hand corner Tomorrow we will mount these on paper and display them outside.
