  1. Do Now How does this thing work?

  2. Announcements • Modified schedule Monday and Tuesday • Report to 3rd block • Monday • 1:36-2:56 FIRST BLOCK • 3:00-4:15 SECOND BLOCK • Tuesday • 1:36-2:56 FOURTH BLOCK • 3:00-4:15 FIFTH BLOCK • Get your progress reports signed! • 10 days till EOG’s • 24 school days till we’re leaving the 7th grade

  3. Agenda • Finish up our lab from Friday • Talk about the seven different energy types • Energy transfer • Energy transfer lab

  4. Energy Lab • You have 25 minutes today to finish up everything for the lab from Friday. • Most of you are up to the Vocab Scavenger Hunt and part 4. If you aren’t there yet, I expect some serious hustle. • If you finish early, I have extra credit work for you. • I don’t think I’ve ever been hassled so much for extra credit!

  5. Energy • Defined as the ability to do work. • Energy is measured in joules (J). • Work done on an object gives energy to that object.

  6. 7 forms of energy • Note: you do not need to write this information down. • You have it all in your graphic organizer from your vocab scavenger hunt. • If you “forgot” to draw the picture that corresponds with the energy type, you may draw the examples that I have up here .

  7. Brain Break • Because there is a lot today.

  8. Electrical Energy • Electrons

  9. Sound Energy • Vibrating molecules picked up by our ears.

  10. Chemical Energy • Food, batteries, fuels • Why food?

  11. Heat Energy • How “fast” molecules are vibrating.

  12. Light Energy • Includes radio and TV waves. Colors represents different amounts of electromagnetic energy.

  13. Atomic Energy • The source of this energy is the nucleus or center of the atom. (nuclear power, sun, radioactive elements)

  14. Mechanical Energy • Matter that is in motion.

  15. Energy Conversions • All forms of energy can be converted to other forms. • This is because of the Law of Conservation.

  16. Energy conversions: Things to remember • Some energy is ALWAYS changed into heat • Energy conversions end with a usable and unusable form of energy. • Energy is NEVER lost!!

  17. Usable and non-usable • Kinetic and potential energy can be re-used to turn into another energy form. • Sound and friction (sometimes heat) energy is non-usable because it is lost to the universe.

  18. Steps to identifying energy conversions • 1. Read the question • 2. Circle a clue to an energy source • 3. label the type of energy • 4. circle another clue to an energy source • 5. label the type of energy • 6. Be sure that you are converted in the right direction

  19. Examples What is the usable and non-usable energy forms?

  20. On your own • What is the energy input and what are the outputs? Light Electrical Sound

  21. Photosynthesis The prefix photo means light

  22. Solar Energy  Chemical Energy

  23. Try one on your own. • Flashlight • Chemical to electric to radiant • Chemical because of what’s inside the battery • Hairdryer • Electric to thermal to motion • Glow Stick • Chemical to radiant

  24. Energy conversion lab • You’ll be working through some energy conversions. • Make sure that you are reading your lab sheet.

  25. EOG week
