  2. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: The History and political difference • Haiti first develop a rich agricultural economy before Dominican Republic. It develop a agricultural economy because of the environmental capital of forests and soils. • Dominican Republic was a colony of Spain but than it suffered because of it’s economic and political issues. The issue was that Haiti gained more slaves then Spain.

The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: The society and the environment • Majority of the population in Dominican Republic was mulattobut on the other hand, lighter skin was able to get more higher social and economic status rather than people with dark skin. In addition, some people in Dominican Republic migrated to the republic's larger cities or to the United States for a better living because it is hard to maintain life in Dominican Republic • Haiti is one of the poorest country but since Haiti is one of the poorest country, traditionally, People in Haiti would take care for each other. Furthermore often, agencies and nongovernment organizations would help Haiti and support Haiti.

  4. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: The Migration • Rural areas in Dominican Republic would often experienced some migration. The places often Migration happens in Dominican Republic is La Romana, Independencia, and San Pedro de Macorís. It is reported that about 46 percent people are migrations. Migrates earn more than non-migrants because of lack of opportunities but also it also depends if an individual has the skills that are needed for a certain job. • In Haiti, people move to cities, or they go to other countries, which are the United States and the Dominican Republic for a better life.

  5. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: Religion • Majority of the Dominicans are Roman Catholics and the religion was made by a Concordat with the Vatican. In addition, often the religion was not practiced a lot so a lot of people seek ways to talk to god like through the clergy, the saints and so on. • The religion for Haiti is Roman Catholicism but also voodoo is the countries national religion. People who do Voodoo believes that it can coexist with Catholicism but on the other hand, some oppose voodoo. Voodoo often applies to family spirit. A word that describe this religious practice is called Loua.

  6. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: Geography • Dominican Republic is located at a island called Hispaniola. It shares with Haiti to all the way to the West. There were a couple of treaties that had happen between the boarder like 1936 Protocol of Revision of the Frontier Treaty of 1929. The total area of the country is approximately 48,442 square kilometers. Dominican Republic is diverse because of it’s semi-desert plains, to lush valleys, to tropical rain forests and with 27 climate changes. • Haiti is only about 28,000 square kilometers but the Dominican Republic takes up the eastern two-thirds of the place because it being shared with the boarder. There was also a series of treaties and protocols which is also the 1936 Protocol of Revision of the Frontier Treaty of 1929.

  7. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: Health Issues, policies and Health care • In Dominican Republic, there is a health system that provides primary care for the people. The services ranged from hospitals to countryside of Dominican Republic. The system was made in the mid-1970s. By the early 1980s, the rural health clinics, health centers, and satellite clinics. • Even though Haiti is one of the poorest countries but it is improving by providing more health services. Even though Haiti is getting the help they need but some people in Haiti rather do traditional remedies like home made medicine. In addition, people in Haiti also suffer Aids.

  8. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: Education • In Dominican Republic, there are some certain education and educational levels for certain kids. In other words, there are educations that included the primary, the secondary, and higher education levels. Depending on the type of the education and how many years the kids attend, there’s a award called Bachillerato certificate that gives university admission. • In Haiti, there are public schools and also Roman Catholic schools. The school is funded by the Haitian government and the Vatican. As years goes by, Haiti improves the education system by primary enrollments increased greatly, especially in urban areas.

  9. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: Food Crops • In Dominican Reopublic, rice and beans are the national dish. Rice production expanded Trujillo era, and in 1979 the country had achieved self-sufficiency. However in the 1980’s the rice production begun to weaken which had to renew the imports. • In Haiti, Sweet potatoes is one of the nation's largest crops, The crops grew on an estimated 100,000 hectares, and they yielded 260,000 tons of produce a year in the 1980’s. In addition, there are other popular foods in Haiti like beans but as of right now, Haiti is suffering of lack of food because of the 2009 earthquake.

  10. The Difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic: Labor • The labor in Dominican Republic increased by 2.8 million in 1988. In the 2.8 million, the age of the workers were between from 15 to 68. Majority, the workers would enter in job markets and since there were a lot of underemployment workers, it had affected a quarter of the labor force. • In Haiti, there were about 2.8 million workers and most of them were females. In 1987 the United States Department of Labor rated that Haiti's unemployment rate was 49 percent and often workers would work in Port-au-Prince but mostly in rural areas.
