  3. Goal: Success For Every Student • Definition of success? What does it mean to be a successful student? Teacher? Administrator? • To achieve success we need to be focused on individual growth in academic, social and professional areas.

  11. How will data guide student learning? To improve student achievement, staff at Horizon Middle School will deliver targeted differentiated instruction In literacy, writing, math, and science.

  12. Student Success • To aid in student achievement, it is our goal to help students become actively engaged in monitoring and tracking academic growth. • CIT • Analysis of MAP, MSP, data • Explicit goal setting • Student/teacher conferences • Online grading

  13. Steps to improve academic growth • RTI • Differentiated instruction within classroom • Compass Odyssey • Targeted instructional support for IEP students • Learning Assistance Program • After school study

Monitoring Student Achievement • Quarterly assessments (Measurement of Academic Progress) for students receiving RTI/LAP support • AIMES Web for students with IEP’s • SOAR – Short and long term data analysis of state and district assessments • Skyward – Student grades, assignments, test scores • MAP/MSP data • Classroom Based Assessments in all Academic/Elective Areas

Address the social and emotional needs of our students • Students need to be actively engaged in order for learning to take place. • Students need to be in an environment where they feel safe, respected, and valued. Theory - When a student is comfortable they will be will to take risks to allow them to actively participate in the classroom/school.

Success for Teachers • Creating Professional Development opportunities focused on TPEP, 5D+ Instructional Framework, and technology integration • Active participation in exploring new initiatives during staff development time (2x a month), PLC time and early release hours • Spring/summer of 2012 four teachers attended Common Core Standards training • Fall 2012 – five teachers attended National Middle School Conference

Teacher Success • Three teachers currently piloting TPEP Evaluation. • Someteachers are focusing their PGO around TPEP standards. • All teachers have created a teacher webpage to aid in communication with parents. • Teachers will receive training to facilitate an effective integration of one-to-one in the classroom.

Monitoring Teacher Success • Pre-Post data collection on the 5D+ Instructional Framework • Pre-Post data collection on technology skills/standards • Small/large group discussions on how teachers can use research on best practices to improve student achievement • Principal walk-throughs and evaluations

  20. Creating a culture of risk taking • PLC discussions focused on deepening understanding of Common Core, 5D+ Instructional Framework, and TPEP • Content area teachers are working together to align current curriculum/resources to Common Core Standards and to create common assessments • Celebration of successes within staff meetings and PLC time • Monthly staff lunches • HMS Wikispace – used to encourage online collaboration and communication
