  1. Welcome to our eco assembly By Cameron and Almira

  2. Meet the council members

  3. Information to look out for around the school. In the next few weeks you will notice that the eco-council have put up some signs. You will notice posters about “switch-off fortnight”. Look out for toasty stickers and smiley face cards! We are now going to inform you about what all of this means.

  4. Our Signs Y3 Jobs To make signs for: • Switch off the lights • Keep windows and doors closed • Save water • Put your litter in the bin • Remember to turn off taps Y4 Jobs To make signs for: • Recycle paper • Turn off computer monitors • Keep off the mound-look after our plants and flowers • Shut doors and windows

  5. Smiley Face Cards Smiley face cards will be stuck on light switches and monitors to remind you to turn things off. If the appliance is off you’ll see a green smiley face, but if it is on unnecessarily you’ll see a red sad face.

  6. Toasty Stickers You will also notice toasty stickers around. They will be placed on every door/window etc. that is left needlessly open. They will be fairly small with a cartoon piece of toast. It will be saying: Get Me Toasty!

  7. Switch Off Fortnight “”Switch-Off Fortnight” begins on Monday 19th November and this year we are saying ‘Goodbye, Standby.’ There will be posters around the school and there are badges that will say on them: Switch off Monitor

  8. “Switch-Off Fortnight” is a campaign encouraging schools across England to switch off appliances. When you leave a TV on standby you might think it’s not using electricity, but in fact, it’s using nearly as much as it does when the TV is on!

  9. Vegetable Patch Mr Gibson has dug up the willow garden to create a vegetable patch and a wildlife area. Science club and the eco-councillors have thought about planting various things like strawberries and butternut squash. We are also going to have a bird hide and a selection of other wildlife attractions.

  10. Vegetable Patch There is a competition from Year 1 upwards to design the area. You will each get A sheet with the layout of the area to draw on and there will be prizes. Entries should be submitted by Monday 3rd December.

  11. Remember to not only turn off in school, but to turn off at home too. That is the end of our eco assembly. Thank you for listening. We hope you have enjoyed it. By Almira and Cameron Y6 Eco Councillors
