  5. Eagle Service Project The Concept and Proposal should be: • A. Properly entered in the Eagle Workbook, including “before” photos where possible • B. Include “estimated” hours, numbers of scouts and adult volunteers, materials and costs • C. Thoroughly reviewed by the Unit Committee • D. Have all required signatures. Do not sign a signature block unless you have been approved to do so. • E. Be scheduled for Eagle Board Proposal Review through the District Scout Office • F. Supply three black-and-white copies to the District Office for the Proposal Board Review.

  6. Eagle Service Project Remember • Count all hours and include all people who participate in the project, including: • All planning hours • All hours discussing project with Unit Leaders • All hours spent by Scouts and Adults on Project • All hours spent by Anyone Setting up Meals and Refreshments

  7. Eagle Service Project Major Points to Stress During the Project • 1. This is the scout’s leadership project – he is in charge, not the adults. • 2. The scout should designate someone to take photos. A good project is a well-documented project. (Don’t, however, take a photo of someone doing something against safety rules.) • 3. The proposal should be complete enough so that, theoretically, it could be handed to another scout to do if the original scout was injured, etc.

  8. Eagle Service Project • 1. Complete the Project Workbook • 2. Additional Pages can be used for all Sections of the Workbook, especially photos and description of the progress of the project. • 3. Keep the Workbook clean, well- organized and legible. The paperwork should reflect the scout’s efforts.

  9. Eagle Service Project • 1. Complete all Requirements before age 18 • 2. Obtain all Unit Signatures – a Unit Board of Review is the best Practice for the final Board of Review • 3. After the Workbook and Eagle Application have been Completed and Approved by the Unit, take them to the District Office to have the dates checked and signed off and a Board of Review set up. The District Approval signature is required.

  10. Eagle Service Project District Board of Review • 1. Set up through the District Office • 2. Currently at the Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia • 3. Can be arranged at other locations if there are adequate reasons (check with the Board Chair) • 4. Composed of at least three Trained Members • 5. Appropriate Project-Related or Other Adults are welcome to participate as Review Board Members

  11. Eagle Service Project • 1. Board may approve and sign application • 2. If the Board does not approve the application, then the scout will be given specific instructions as to what he needs to do to be approved, any time constraints (such as his age), and how he may contact the Board when he is ready to seek final approval. This may be appealed if the scout feels it is appropriate.

  12. Eagle Scout Board • 1. Invites all adult (over age 18) Scouter volunteers to join the Board. Cherokee District provides training 2-3 times per year as requested, usually at Rountable. • 2. Welcomes constructive recommendations and suggestions! • 3. Is flexible. Our motto is “we are here to serve Boy Scouts”. We are not here to harass or intimidate Scouts or to provide an easy route to Eagle. In the past, Cherokee has averaged around 200 hours and $1,000 per project.
