CURRENT EVENTS JANUARY 18 Novelty fake IDs fly under forgery radar • A sophisticated fake ID market is openly thriving in Canada's largest city, with shops selling cards as novelty items that are just different enough from government-issued identification to evade police scrutiny. • the market caters to underage teenagers with a range of official-looking identity cards complete with security features such as magnetic strips, holograms and black-light images. • For about $50, customers can buy an identity card of their choice from almost any Canadian province or U.S. state. The card can include a real home address from the chosen area.

CURRENT EVENTS JANUARY 18 IDLE NO MORE PROTESTERS BLOCK QEII HIGHWAY • After two hours of slowing traffic and blocking traffic on northbound lanes of the QEII Highway south of Edmonton on Wednesday, Idle No More protesters left the highway. • Members of the Papaschase First Nation set up their blockade near Gateway Park at 1 p.m. MT. for a protest that lasted two hours. • Papaschase Chief Calvin Bruneau said the tactics like the blockade are needed to get the attention of the federal government. • "They've been avoiding our issues for a long time not consulting with first nations leaders and brushing aside and stalling," he said.
