  4. PEOPLE Marie Curie Actions in FP7 • Overall scope • Human resource development in R&D in Europe • Attract students to research careers • Attract researchers to Europe • Skills and sustainable career development • Continuity of previous Framework programme, with focus on structuring impact, while simplifying

  5. PEOPLEMarie Curie Actions in FP7 • Increased importance of international participation in FP7 programmes • UA researchers may participate in several Marie Curie actions, (including currently the IEF scheme) • UA researchers and research organisations may further participate in the restricted Marie Curie IRSES action open to third countries that have concluded an S & T Agreement with the EU (or being covered by neighbourhood policy)

  6. PEOPLEMarie Curie Actions in FP7 • 1. Initial training: • Networksfor Early stage researchers* • 2. Life long training and career development: • Intra European Fellowships* • Reintegration Grants • Co-funding of national programmes* • 3. Industry dimension: • Industry-academia partnership and pathways* • 4. World fellowships: • Outgoing fellowships • Incoming fellowships* • International Research Staff Exchange Scheme* * Open to third-country

  8. PEOPLEMarie Curie Actions in FP7 • Activity 4: • “World Fellowships” • International Outgoing Fellowships for Career Development (IOF) • To reinforce the international dimension of European researchers by training and acquisition of new knowledge in a Third Country • International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) • To develop mutually beneficial research co-operation between Europe and Third Country through knowledge sharing with incoming researchers • International Research Staff Exchange Scheme IRSES

  9. To establish or deepen partnership between min. 2 research organisations within Member States/Associated Countries and one or more organisations in Countries covered by European Neighbourhood policy and Countries with S&T Agreement through a joint programmes of exchange of researchers Marie Curie Actions in FP7:IRSES • Exchange programme • Multi-annual joint exchange programme, 2-4 years • Short term exchanges (up to 1 year per person in total) • Seconded staff : researchers, management, technical staff

  11. PEOPLEMarie Curie Actions in FP7 • Further opportunities are available for UA researchers and/or Host organisations in: • Initial Training Networks (ITN):to improve career perspectives of early stage researchers in both public & private sector via international network of participants • Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes (COFUND):to supports existing or new regional, national and international fellowship programmes to increase trans-national mobility for training and career development of experienced researchers • Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP):to improve/establish collaborations between, the public and private research sectors

  20. The individual participation of UA researchers is noticeable; an increase can be expected at the end of the FP7 compared to the figures of FP6. In particular the IRSES scheme has been well appreciated; there have been 4 times more participating UA organizations in the second IRSES call resulting in more than double funded proposals compared to the first call. The possibility to apply as partners within the Host driven actions, ITN and IAPP, should be raised. There are no longer upper limits on the % of third country researchers that can be recruited. UA researchers can apply to the COFUND published calls http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/people/cofund_en.html Highlights
