  1. The Servant KingMark 3-6, The Example

  2. Theme Jesus presented Himself so as to demonstrate how a godly person lives.

  3. 1. A Godly Man PicksHis Friends Wisely He looks for faithful followers of God to be his closest friends He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him, 3:13-15

  4. 2. A Godly Man Is Spirit-filled He is a righteous Spirit-filled man – a practical enemy of Satan Mark 3:22-24 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebub! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.” So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.”

  5. 3. A Godly Man Bonds With Faithful Believers He makes sure that godly people are his closest “kin” Mark 3:32-35 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

  6. 4. A Godly Man Shares What He Knows He imparts wisdom through practical lessons on truth Mark 4:1b-2 …He got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. (The Parable of the Soils.)

  7. 5. A Godly Man Continually Provokes Spiritual Growth He realizes every part of the spiritual LIFE is a GIFT from God that MUST be received Mark 4:10-12 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God HAS BEEN GIVEN to you.

  8. 6. A Godly Man TurnsTruth Into Action He hears the truth and realizes he must act on that truth before he gets more. Mark 4:24,25 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”

  9. 7. A Godly Man Trusts God To Be Constantly At Work – While We Work He realizes God is never asleep or passivebut is always at work around us

  10. A. The FRUIT of the workgrows all by itself Mark 4:26b “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how

  11. B. The RESULTS of the work are huge compared to the effort Mark 4:31,32 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants…

  12. 8. A Godly Man Is Not Afraid When He Is On God’s Mission He knows God will finish the good work in him before he dies Mark 4:37-40 A furious squall came up… Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind…, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

  13. 9. A Godly Man Volunteers To Free Spiritual Captives He realizes that captivity to sin and Satan are the world’s biggest problems Mark 5:1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. He lived among the tombs; Nothing could restrain him; Cried out and cut himself, Filled with a legion of demons; By request Jesus sent them into the pigs; Freed the man to become a missionary

  14. 10. A Godly Man Makes Time For Holy Interruptions He experiences unplanned divine appointments to meet needs Mark 5:25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. …She had suffered a great deal…she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, …she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. …He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you…”

  15. 11. A Godly Man Knows That With God Nothing Is Impossible He knows many will not expect God to work but prays on to experience God’s will Mark 5:35 …Some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?” Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

  16. 12. A Godly Man Realizes His Faith Is Usually Under-Appreciated He realizes people who know his humanity will not have confidence God is at work Mark 6:4-6 Jesus said…, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their lack of faith.
