  4. Interpretation of Theme • The ways to learn of war is one thing, but everyone's mind will drift from reality to a world of nature. • Everyone's minds work the same but the thoughts are different. Soldiers who do not want to be in war will pass the time by thinking of peaceful things.

  5. Defining difficult Words • Japonica- A red flower that originates from Japan. • Swivel- A gun swivel refers to a mounted stand on a gun that allows a wide arc.

  6. Allusions Analysis • The recruit see’s nature as he dreads being in the classroom.

  7. A more modern translation • It’s already modern.

  8. Figuring out figurative language • The recruit feels like he’s trapped behind bars, he wants to get out and be with nature, but he’s stuck in the classroom.
