  9. Information for Students Welcome & Course Outline: Welcome to the Medical Innovation SSM – an introduction to the world of business and innovation in healthcare. Have you ever been a clinic and though there was a better way to run a clinical service? Have you seen an operation and had an idea for a device to make things easier? Are you someone interested in researching new treatments for diseases? Are you someone who would like a career beyond the confines of clinical medicine? Often, people with new ideas don't know where to turn. Our aim in this SSM is to show you how to take an idea and make it reality. The course has three components (1) a business bootcamp (2) meeting entrepreneurs and clinicians involved in innovation (3) a Dragons' Den style presentation where you can practice presenting an idea, so it won't be so daunting when you have to do it for real! There also will be visits to meet companies and funders involved in medical innovation. Dragon’s Den: Start thinking of ideas for the Dragons Den – these can be in any area of medical innovation. There will be a brainstorm session during the SSM and you will work closely with various experts from Engineering, Medicine and Finance to help develop your idea in time for the Dragons Den. Don’t worry if you don’t come up with anything as we will be teaming up and also giving some ideas out to develop during the two weeks.
