  2. Bullet Casings • Detectives use bullet casing to try and get DNA or things like fingerprints off them. Not only DNA but it will also tell what kind of gun it is.

  3. Residue • Residue can be left behind on bullets, guns, or objects around can hint to who the shooter was in a crime. The residue on the object would be compared to the residue on the hand of the suspect.

  4. Wound of the bullet • The wound of the bullet can tell what kind of bullet was used.

  5. Blood Spatter Patterns • Blood Spatter Patterns tell detectives where the shooter was in a crime. Detectives have to “play out” (reenact) the crime or see how it happened.

  6. Shot Placement • Shot placement is the deciding factor whether a person will live or die. That’s common sense. It can tell investigators whether the shooter was looking to kill or “send a message”.

  7. Interior Ballistics • Interior Ballistics is basically its name. It’s what goes on inside the gun. Certain guns leaves certain marks on their bullets. Detectives compare the marking to the marking the gun would leave.

  8. Exterior Ballistics • Exterior ballistics is how the bullet gets to its target. It tell about wind, gravity and others things that affect the bullet while it’s in motion.

  9. Terminal Ballistics • Terminal Ballistics helps the U.S. help better guns. Guns that will cause more damage. When we go to war we need to know what weapons to use, therefore we use terminal ballistics.

  10. Ballistics • All these ways help find the shooter in a murder. They result in having the shooter in custody
