Mission • Effectively communicate ALMA science, technology, & value to the broadest possible international audience • Engage & inspire • professional & amateur astronomers • general public • media • students & educators • science museum & planetarium visitors • Assume that EPO vision, leadership, & excellence are mandates for ALMA

Global ALMA EPO • JAO leads international & Chilean ALMA EPO • Existing EPO organizations at NRAO, ESO, NAOJ collaborate, contribute resources & expertise, as appropriate & possible • JAO program begins with first EPO hire in March 2007 • Executives lead regional programs • NRAO leads North American ALMA EPO • ESO leads European ALMA EPO • NAOJ leads East Asian ALMA EPO • Each Executive has initiated a regional EPO program

ALMA EPO Working Group • Organized as a forum for JAO & Execs to collaboratively define, implement & provide oversight for a global ALMA EPO program • Face-to-face meetings at Prague IAU General Assembly (22 Aug 06) & Madrid ALMA science conference (16 Nov 06) • Between f2f meetings, WG conducts business via e-mail exploder, periodic telecons, & wiki • WG currently chaired by Adams (NRAO) • Chair transitions to JAO when initial EPO hire complete

ALMA EPO Working Group • ALMA EPO Development Plan • Describes the steps & timeline to design & implement a collaborative global ALMA EPO program • 15 March 2007 to ALMA Board (rev 1.0) • ALMA EPO Policies & Procedures • Document policies & procedures for use by JAO and Execs in global ALMA EPO implementation • June 2007 to ALMA Board (rev 1.0)

ALMA EPO Working Group • 5-year ALMA EPO Strategic Plan (2008 - 2012) • Define ALMA EPO mission, vision, strategies & broad development plan from present thru Early Science to construction completion & Full Operations • June 2007 delivery to ALMA Board (rev 1.0) • 5-year ALMA EPO Long Range Plan (2008 - 2012) • Implementation plan for adopted strategies • Options: visionary, intermediate, minimal • September 2007 delivery to ALMA Board (rev 1.0)
