Nylink: Database Pros and Cons

What we like:

What we live with:

  • Enables easy data analysis for staff, members (statistics, activity reports, price tracking)

  • Facilitates targeted marketing by making it easy to identify groups with common characteristics.

  • Leads to streamlined workflow for renewals and member communications.

  • Data can easily be exported to a commercial CRM.

  • Possible web self-service applications being considered.

  • Redundant data entry on spreadsheets and other files.

  • Vendor partners still require different output; there are no standards.

  • Did I mention data entry?

  • Only partly linked to other critical sources of information, such as OCLC activity and billing system.

  • Tricky to set up security parameters, so there is limited staff access
