  2. Collectibles • Collectibles are items that are relatively rare in number. • Artworks, toys, baseball cards, and antiques are all examples of collectibles.

  3. Limits • Collectors buy items they hope will increase in value over time • Investors in collectibles don’t make profit (or loss) until they sell their items • Depends on what people are willing to pay • Because there’s a much smaller market for collectibles, investors view them as very high in risk

  4. What type of investors? • Long term investors • High risk investors • Can afford to lose money • Investors who see value in things that they believe will increase with inflation

  5. How to make money • Find a collectible that is up in price • Know the collectible’s value • Buy collectibles at a cheaper price • Find the right buyer • Get more than what you paid • A=P(1+i)^n = 100(1+.05)^100 = $13,150

  6. Economic Climate • How rare or valuable something is • Valuable worldwide • Buyers interested in your particular collectible • Businesses in investing collectibles

  7. Companies • Mile High Comics • Topps

  8. Getting started and risks • You need as much money as whatever you want to buy costs to get started • Risks: • Value depends on whether there is a market for your collectible as well as the condition • Small market = High risk • Your collectible may not increase in value

  9. Investment Returns • After 100 years of investing in a collectible, the investment totals $160,281 when you paid $1,000 for it.
