  1. Dear 3E4 Please pay close attention to the following slides

  2. Why this slideshow • We have missed many lessons • These are important lessons • Your SA2 Paper 1 will be closely based on these lessons that you have missed • If you are good and follow this lesson quietly, you will get to watch an episode of the sitcom “Friends” on Friday

  3. IMPORTANT • Please try to complete all the steps of this lesson • There is no need to write too much. Each paragraph only needs to be about 100 words long • The marks for today’s activity will be included for the CA.

  4. First of all… • Please make sure you have all 4 pages of the handout • Read what is on the next slide very carefully • After you have read, then please follow the instructions given. Work must be handed in at the end of the lesson • Are you ready? • Then here we go

  5. Read this… • New Year’s Eve falls on the 31st of December. Many people hold or attend parties to celebrate the event and usher in the New Year together. • Some of these parties can get pretty wild, but there are also people who choose to welcome the New Year in quieter or more meaningful ways.

  6. On page 1 of your handout… • In one paragraph, describe a particular New Year’s Eve scene: • Where were you? • Who was with you? • What time was it? • What were you doing?

  7. 10 minutes

  8. Time's up

  9. Moving on… • Every New Year’s Day, people all over the world make resolutions for the new year. • A resolution is a promise you make to yourself that you will achieve something good for yourself that year. • For example, you might make a resolution to lose weight, to manage your time well or to curb a bad habit that year.

  10. On page 2 of your handout… • In another paragraph, write about a New Year’s resolution that you made. • What was the resolution? • Why did you make it? • How did people around you react when you made the resolution?

  11. VERY IMPORTANT: • IF YOU HAVE NEVER MADE A RESOLUTION, THEN MAKE ONE UP NOW!

  12. 10 minutes

  13. Time's up

  14. Keeping the resolution… • But it is not always easy to keep the resolution. We are always tempted to give up, and soon fall back into our old habits.

  15. On page 3 of your handout… • In the third paragraph, write about how you faced difficulties keeping your resolution: • How was your resolution tested? • Did you succeed or fail in keeping your resolution? • How?

  16. 10 minutes

  17. Time's up

  18. It’s the feeling that counts… • After we break our resolution, we often feel really lousy. • In the last paragraph, describe how you felt after you broke your resolution. • If you kept your resolution, then describe how you felt when you resisted the temptation to break it.

  19. 10 minutes

  20. Time's up

  21. HOORAY! YOU’RE DONE! • Hand in your work • I will mark it by Friday • If all of you have handed it in, you will watch “Friends” on Friday- The One With All The Resolutions
