  5. Direct Object Pronouns = PronombresComplementosDirectos ¿Qué hacen los pronombres complementos directos? (PCDs) 1.) PCDs reemplazan sustantivos en una frase 2.)PCDs reemplazan los sustantivos que son objetos directos 3.) PCDs contestan la pregunta "¿Qué?"

  11. PCDs están ANTES del verbo. Escribe "I fulfill them" y "I fulfill it." 1.) Los realizo. 2.) La realizo.

  14. Exceptions: Direct Objects (or indirect objects) go BEFORE the verb in a Spanish sentence unless: • The verb is a positive command • ¡Hazlo! (Do it!) • The verb is in the infinitive • Voy a comprarlos. (I am going to buy them) • The verb is in the gerund (ando/iendo) • Estoycomprándolos. (I am buying them) • Then, the PCD attaches to the end of the verb as one word.

When do we attach PCDs to verbs? • ANYTIME A POSITIVE COMMAND IS GIVEN (negative commands still have the PCD in front of the verb) • ANYTIME THE VERB IS AN INFINITIVE OR A GERUND (ando/iendo) • You will usually see an attached PCD when the sentence expresses the following ideas: • GOING TO DO something • CAN DO something • NEED TO DO something • WANT TO DO something • IS DOING something

  17. PARA PRACTICAR: • 1.) I read the book. • 2.) She threw the ball. • 3.) You brought (llever) the Kleenexes. • 4.) They moved (mover) the desks. • 5.) I am going to tell it.

  18. PARA PRACTICAR • I have the books. • You washed the dishes. • They need you! • Do the homework. • Don’t play those games.

  19. Indirect Objects • What are the INDIRECT OBJECTS in English? • What do they do? • ANSWER THE QUESTION TO WHOM? OR FOR WHOM? • Me, You, Him, Her, It, Us, Them

  27. Placement of Pronouns • Pero, ¿qué tipo de pronombres vienen primero? EL ObjectoIndirecto • In a sentence with both, the PCI comes first. • He threw the ball to her. • El lanzó la pelota a ella.

  28. Write the sentence with the PCD, like you know how. • He threw it to her: • In a sentence with both, the PCI comes first. So now, write it with both. • He threw her it:

  30. The exception: • When there are 2 L's in a Row....the first one becomes a SE. • “Makes is all EASIER TO SE.”

  31. I'll put a sentence up here with a direct object. You must form the sentence with the PCD and PCI on your desk. • 1.) Yo doy el lapiz a tí. • 2.) El doctor da la medicina al niño. • 3.) Mi tía hace comida para nosotros. • 4.) La profesoraquieredartarea a nosotros. • 5.) Los chicos compran regalos para mí. • 6.) La profesora da la tarea a tí. • 7.) SeñorPresidente, por favor dé la gasolinea a los estudiantes.

  32. 8.) Tú compraste los regalos por tus amigos. • 9.) ¿Pagaste el dinero a mí? • 10.) ¿Estásestudiando los verbos? • 11.) Yo doy la tarea al profesor. • 12.) Yo pagué el dinero al doctor. • 13.) El presidente compró carros por todas las personas. • 14.) ¿Dio el presidente un carro a tí?

  33. Attaching PCDs and PCIs • The same rules for attaching PCDs to the end of a word (infinitive or gerund) apply for attaching PCIs to the end of a word. PCIs still come first, and they still change LE or LES to SE if there are 2 Ls in a row. • EJEMPLOS: • I am going to give himthe homework. • Voy a dársela. • He is helping her. • El estáayudándole.

  34. Put the PCI in the sentence in the proper place: • Puedodecir a Juan. (I can tell Juan – I can tell him.) • Familiaimporta a Carmen. • Quieresdar la nota a mí. • Beisbolgusta a Carlos.

  35. Put the PCIs and PCDs in the proper place • Quieresdar la nota a mí. • Mi abuelaquierepreparargalletasparamí y mis amigos. • Estoycomprandolibrospara mi padre. • Necesitamosdarlasflechas a Robin Hood.
