  9. NEW INITIATIVES FOR KHARIF • Area under hybrid paddy increased to 2.0 lakh hect. • Area under Bt. Cotton increased from 41,000 hectares to 3.0 lakh hectares - Seed supplied through Govt. agency • Sugarcane productivity to be doubled in next two years. (Ring pit method of planting) - Productivity of State - 644 qtl. per hect.- Productivity with ring pit method - 1287 qtl. per hect. • Continue weaning the farmers away from water guzzling Summer Paddy • Area under Dhaincha increased from 10,000 hectares to more than 52,000 hectares • Cultivation of summer moong promoted • Area under Kharif pulses increased to an all time high of 90,000 ha • Free SMS service for farmers (9915862026)

STRATEGY TO INCREASE RABI PRODUCTION 2007-08 • Emphasis on Block specific action plan • 100% seed treatment • Early/timely planting of wheat • Campaign from 1-15 October • Seed treatment demon in every village • Involvement of village sarpanches and panches, kisan clubs etc. • Involvement of private sector • Involvement of school & college going students • Use of Mass media & print media • Emphasis on site specific varieties • Adequate stocking of good quality seeds & other inputs • Emphasis on zero till sowing of wheat • Proper management of weeds & irrigation water • Use of potasic fertilizers & zypsum • Use of bio-fertilizers • Reduction in post harvest losses
