  2. US Agency Contributions to VOCALS • NSF GEO (AGS Climate Dynamics & Atmos. Chemistry, OCE Phys. Oceanography) • 19 Projects, 33 PIs, ~$7M • 5 ended 2009-2010, 6 end 2011, 8 end 2012 • VOCALS Support Office and Data Management • NOAA CPO (CPPA/ESS, MAPP/CTB) • 9 Projects, 17 PIs, ~$3.5M (additional ~13M since 2000) • 1 ended 2010, 5 end 2011, 3 end 2013 • VOCALS Support Office and Data Management • DOE Office of Science (ARM and Atmos. Science Program) • 6 BNL and 13 PNNL PIs, Ongoing • ONR • 6 Projects, 11 PIs, Ongoing

  3. Opportunities • As processes are being better documented and initial modeling using the datasets is underway, moving toward synthesis products, integrated understanding and model improvements • New proposals to NSF and NOAA should be submitted to regular program announcements; no focused call for proposals anticipated • Consider a dedicated journal issue providing a compendium of VOCALS research papers; already doing via EGU Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics • Next issue of US CLIVAR Variations to showcase the VOCALS Science Meeting and the Tropical Atlantic Workshop with particular focus on addressing tropical biases • Participate and present VOCALS research at the October WCRP Open Science Conference
