  1. Medieval Characters By: Matt Waters

  2. King Uther Pendragon • The father of King Arthur • Succeeded his brother, Ambrosius as king of Britain. • Went to war with Gorlois for Igraine’s hand in marriage and won (Merlin cast a spell for Uther to have Igraine as his wife in return for their firstborn son-Arthur.) • Eventually died in battle-Arthur later succeeded him as king

  3. Sir Ector • Raised Arthur at Merlin’s request • Ector’s son, Sir Kay, grew up with Arthur and knew each other as stepbrothers. • Arthur was acting as page to his stepbrother, at a tournament when he pulled a sword from the stone. • Sir Kay tried to take the credit, but Ector saw through his son’s claim and made him swear on the Bible how he came by the sword, and he admitted to it being Arthur who had taken the sword.

  4. Excalibur • The famous magical sword given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake • After Arthur’s last battle, he returned the sword to the lake where a hand grasped it and took it under.

  5. Lady of the Lake • Gave Arthur the sword Excalibur • Stole Lancelot when he was a baby and cured him when he went mad. • Often known as daughter of Morgan Le Fay

  6. Morgan Le Fay • Arthur’s half-sister • Steals the scabbard from Arthur and throws it into a lake • Tries to overthrow Arthur at many points but tries to heal him later in his life

  7. Igraine • Mother of Arthur and husband of Uther after her first husband-Gorlois died • Never saw firstborn Arthur as he was raised by Ector

  8. Sir Lancelot • First and greatest of the Knights of the Round Table • Fostered and raised by the Lady of the Lake • Once was a king who never failed in courtesy, courage, or willingness to serve

  9. Round Table • Made up of men of great courage, honor, dignity, courtesy, and nobleness • Undertook dangerous quests for the king and the people
