Physics Upgrades • (R,Z) Guiding Center Drift Orbit Integrator • Accurate orbits on open field lines. • Monte Carlo RF Operator (MCRF) • Uses TORIC wave field (probably with insufficient resolution). • Recalculates orbits, rescaling |E+|, to obtain power match between wave code & MCRF. • Wave code uses only nb & 2/3<Eb>; ability to use full fb distribution not yet in place. • Work of Dr. Jae-Min Kwon, KBSI.

  7. Software Status • Serial NUBEAM (NTCC Module) builds and runs on Jaguar • Still need MPI-driver not dependent on TRANSP or other legacy framework. • NUBEAM Component Issues • Still in “design stage”. • C/C++ compatibility needed (for FACETS). • Design of output data for Deposition-Only NUBEAM

Software Status (2) • Design directions: • Use code generator to provide unified input data interface with C/C++ compatibility. • Initialization: • Load Defaults, then… • Load Machine State (format TBD), then… • Load run-specific controls. • Time Step: • Load Plasma State; Compute; Update state.

  9. NUBEAM People • Doug McCune– original creator, ongoing development of serial NUBEAM (20%). • K. Indireshkumar (Kumar)– MPI parallelization (50%). • Christiane Ludescher (Tina)– NTCC module builds & portability (20%). • Jae-Min Kwon– MCRF operator, has returned to Korea (0%). • SciDAC funding shown in parentheses.

  10. TRANSP Production, Costs Up TRANSP production runs (and crashes!) sorted by Fiscal Year. This work engages PPPL NUBEAM people to high degree. Each crashed run requires manual intervention. Our policy has been to treat all crashed runs as equally important regardless of originating project.PTRANSP use thought to be a major reason the crash percentage is up.
