  1. Don’t a Worry, Be Happy

  2. Christian, Finish the Race! 2Ti 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

  3. Christian Walk Analogous to War or Athletic Competition 2Co 10: 4 For the weapons of our warfare… Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, 1Ti 1:18 …wage the good warfare, 1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith 1Pe 2:11…abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, Ph 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 2Ti 2:5 …if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.

  4. 1Co 9:24 ¶ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I pommel my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. Boston Marathon

  5. Four Things You Must Do to Finish the Race 1.You Must Count the Cost Lu 14:25 ¶ Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 "For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it 33 "So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

  6. 2. You Must Develop and Maintain. Temperance • 1Co 9:25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Mt 16:24 ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

  7. What are Your priorities? • 3. You Must Establish Singleness of Mind • Ph 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. • Mt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters;

  8. 4. You Must have Clarity of Purpose- “run so as you may obtain…” • a. A Proper Appreciation of the Value of the Prize- • Ph 3: 8 "... I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord,” Mt 16: 26 "What shall it profit a man, if he should gain the whole world yet lose his own soul?" b. AResolve to Win the Prize at any Cost Ac 21:13 Then Paul answered, "What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

  9. Conclusion Heartbreak Hill There will be some heartbreak hills in your race. Heb 12:1 Therefore since we also are surrounded with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily besets us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat Re 3:21 To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne,
