  1. Scary Thoughts on Blogging The Dark Side

  2. Work Load • Fear the Extra Work of Moderating? • I train a student to do it. • “ As for moderating, it can be time consuming, but I think we agree it is less so than reading handwritten journal entries and reports! I often use a team of student editor, reporters, and fact checker and creativity enhancer to moderate and correct student blogs. They love to be charge, and we rotate the chores. It keeps the writers on their toes, because they hate it when their peers find errors. Aah…correcting made easy!” –Lez Delmatoff, 2011 • Blog are simply ‘online journals’ , not a complex website of tricky activities.

  3. Grading • Most recommend not grading. I’d use the same grading I do for journals if I did give a grade. Generally, it’s formative. I give a positive comment and a suggestion to improve or change in their writing.

  4. I’m Not Tech Savvy • I use Kid blog how to videos such as the ones below. They tell you how to set up student accounts etc. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M-BcSA91zI • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3luY-K5HY8 • There are many tutorials on you tube.

  5. Exposure • I use only kid blog. I do not connect to the outside world. • Edupress is a blog space • Wordpress • Edmodo ( I have blogged on this as well)

  6. Cyber Bullying • We have lessons on how to respond to comments and how to make comments on other people’s blogs.

  7. Bias or Inaccurate Information • This becomes a good lesson on spotting bias. We also do lessons on what to post – if you can’t prove it, don’t say it. We don’t spread gossip. • A blog post can be sheer opinion, an advertisement, or a rant.

  8. Intellectual Property • Who owns the information students give out ? • I have not had any experience with this as an issue.

  9. Do You Have Any Concerns?
