  1. Reflections on Church Weekend Away Friday 21st March – Sunday 23rd March 2014

  2. Opening Session Two Objectives: • That we should grow in unity • That we should learn more

  3. Teaching Session 1 The Role of Holy Spirit in the Old Testament The presence of God (in a supernatural way) in a physical world. From the very beginning – Gen 1 v 2 Key Role in: • Creating • Enabling Equipping (e.g. craftsmen) • War (e.g. Gideon) • Guidance (e.g. Nehemiah) • Prophesying (e.g. Isaiah, Ezekiel)

  4. Teaching Session 2 Holy Spirit in the New Testament • Brought people to Jesus • Makes the things of Jesus known • Makes us aware of sin • Reminds us what Jesus & God have said – BUT does not add to it.

  5. Teaching Session 2 Continued Does not agree with the Cessationalists or Dispensationalists. Romans 8 v 9 ‘Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ’ Baptizo – Like Tie Dying a garment – the dye will change the colour of the bits that are available to it. Example of aged relative in Granny annex

  6. Teaching Session 2 Continued Romans 8 v 1-5 – Mind set on what Spirit desires Take thoughts captive and ask What Would Jesus Do? We co-operate with the Holy Spirit and the result is the Fruit of the Spirit (this is the true measure of how filled with the Spirit we are).

  7. Teaching Session 3 Holy Sprit Gifts • Problems with things of Holy Spirit down to Pride or Jealousy • Together we are body of Christ – Gifts given for good of body (be willing to be served) • Common good includes those outside of church • If not using gifts then someone misses out. • Use correctly, don’t miss-use or not use. • Co-operating with Holy Spirit makes us more Christ like (example of the right words at difficult times).

  8. Opening Session Two Objectives: • That we should grow in unity • That we should learn more
