MERCURY

  • Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.

  • In roman mythology Mercury is the god of travel and thievery.

  • Mercury’s surface is very similar to the moon’s it’s very heavily cratered and it has no plate tectonics.


Venus

  • Venus is the second planet from the sun but it is the hottest planet because of the gas surrounding it.

  • In roman mythology Venus is the goddess of love.

  • After the moon, Venus


Earth

  • Earth is the third planet from the

    Sun.

  • So far it is the only planet we know of that can support life.

  • Earth’s atmosphere is mainly made

  • up of carbon dioxide and

  • oxygen.


Mars

  • Mars is the forth planet from the Sun.

  • Mars is often referred to as the red planet

  • Mars is named after the roman god of war


Jupiter

  • Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun.

  • Jupiter is also the largest planet in our solar system.

  • It is referred to as a gas giant

  • It is one-thousandth of the size of the sun.


Saturn

  • Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun.

  • Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar system.

  • It is also classed as a gas giant as well as Jupiter.


Uranus

  • Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun.

  • It is also classed as a gas giant as well as Jupiter and Saturn.

  • It is named after the Greek god of the sky.


Neptune

  • Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun.

  • Neptune is named after the roman good of the sea.

  • Neptune is the fourth largest planet by diameter.

  • Neptune is third biggest by mass.
