  2. Albert Speer • Albert Speer was born in Mannheim, Germany on March 19, 1905. • He was educated in architecture at the Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe, and later at the Universities of Munich and Berlin. • He later joined the Nazi Party and became the personal architect of Adolf Hitler.

  3. Albert Speer • Albert Speer joined the Nazi Party in January 1931 and after Hitler became chancellor, he was appointed as his personal architect. • Speer served Hitler with devotion and efficiency.

  4. Albert Speer • Speer was rewarded with many commissions. -He designed parade grounds, searchlights, and banners of the Nuremberg Party Congress in 1934. • He became Inspector General of the Reich and was one of the most loyal members of the Nazi regime.

  5. Albert Speer • In 1942, after Fritz Todt was killed, Albert Speer became the new Minister of Armaments. • He later took on the grander title of Minister of Armaments and War Production.

  6. Albert Speer • In 1943, Speer took over part of Hermann Goering’s responsibilities as planner of the German War economy. • He then inherited Organization Todt, an organization using forced labor for construction of roads and defenses.

  7. Albert Speer • Under his direction of Organization Todt, economic production reached its peak in 1944. • In 1946 though, Albert Speer was tried and found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and was shut away in the Spandau Prison for 20 years.

  8. Albert Speer • After he was released from prison in 1966, Albert Speer published his memoirs. • Inside The Third Reich (1970) and Spandau, The Secret Diaries (1976)

  9. Albert Speer • On September 1, 1981 Albert Speer died of cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 76. • On May 18, 2005 a documentary about Albert Speer portrayed him being complicit in the genocide of Jews.
