  3. Look at the following example: 15 + 5 x 10----Without following the correct order, I know that 15 + 5 = 20 multiplied by 10 gives the answer 200. WRONG!!!!!!! 15 + 5 x 10----Following the correct order, I know that 5 x 10 = 50 plus 15 equals 65. RIGHT!!!!!!!

  4. Associative Property Whenever you change the groupings of factors, the product does not change: (3 x 2) x 4 = 3 x (2 x 4) = 24Same rule applies for addition: (3 + 2) + 4 = 3 + (2 + 4) = 9

  5. Commutative Property A change in the order of the numbers does not change the results. So, the numbers can be swapped. Here are two examples: Example for addition: 4 + 5 = 5 + 4 Example for multiplication: 5 x 3 = 3 x 5Numbers that are subtracted or divided areNOT commutative!

  6. Distributive Property This property lets you multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products. Say what? Here is an example: 4 x 53 (4 x 50) + (4 x 3) 200 + 12 212 is the final answer!
