  1. 2013 OHIO VALLEY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (OVLS) When (10-15 June 2013) Will not take any cadet that will not adhere to standards -- Cadets must meet all grooming standards upon departure (haircut, shave, cosmetics, jewelry, etc) Depart Monday/10 Jun/0800 Return Saturday/15 Jun/2000 Pre-OVLS Training Schedule 5-6 Jun (0800 to 1200) (Additional Physical Training Days in May TBA) Sunday/9 Jun (0800 to 0900) (Uniform/Clothing Drop) Where Wright State University and Wright Patterson AFB Transportation (to and from Wright State) Provided by Springboro City Schools(paid by JROTC Funds)

  2. 2013 OHIO VALLEY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (OVLS) Transportation during OVLS Provided by Wright Patterson transportation and school buses from other schools -Lodging Wright State Dormitory (Gender specific floors) Cannot enter another floor of different gender….if caught they will be sent home 24 Hour vigilance (found outside room after lights out—sent home) (Staff on floor) Will be held accountable for their room (no liquid shoe polish) Double rooms (roommates) --- share bathroom Daily Room Inspections (neatness, cleanliness, follow standards and instructions) Dining Wright Patterson AFB Dining Facility, Meals Ready to Eat (MRE), Pizza, end of school picnic (no soda, snack food, etc --- rewards) Cost Cadet ($180.00) All cadets paid $25 Deposit (or more) -- balance due by 10 May 13 Any drops after 10 May and deposit is forfeited Actual cost ~ $1,200+ per Cadet (Transportation, Lodging, Food, Activities, Equipment, Rentals, Uniforms, Salaries, etc….will not find a comparable leadership school)

  3. 2013 OHIO VALLEY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (OVLS) Clothing/Supplies Issued uniforms (blues/ADUs), physical fitness and OVLS clothing…everything provided -- Initials or identifiying mark must be in each clothing item (including uniforms) One pair civilian clothing (return home only)…will wear blue/grey PT gear on departure Toiletries (makeup) Equipment -- CAMELBACK RECOMMENDED Uniform Inspections Haircut (male/female) Cadet Guide (Every cadet issued their own guide with--must bring to OVLS) Clothing List Cadet Positions-Required Knowledge Drill Permission Slips (Due 10 May 13) Activities/Training Schedule Controlled environment (constant supervision – over 25 instructors) Safety (number one concern—all precautions taken) Homesick First couple of days are the toughest – out of their comfort zone (no soda, snacks, Cell Phone, IPOD, TV, MySpace, Facebook) Some rebel so they can go home (self eliminate) --------some cry before they get off the bus Must complete enough training to receive credit…miss too much training and you will go home Will be put under pressure; held responsible for actions; strict adherence to objectives/standards; mutual respect; will not be humiliated; reminded of standards; pushed to excel (try)

  4. 2013 OHIO VALLEY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (OVLS) Medical Issues Prescription Medication (enough to cover time at camp) Must have dispensing instructions (given at meals) Any medication that causes physical side affects must be explained Over-the-counter medications Aspirin, allergy, ointments, cold medicine, etc Medications that could interfere with training must be identified Daily Sick-Call Emergency Room Immediate contact with parent/guardian No over-the-county medications given without parent/guardian authority Going to sick-call too much will get a cadet sent home (missed training, whining, other concerns to be considered) -- Use of sick call or fictitious ailments to get out training will result in cadet being sent home/not allowed to participate in all activities Conduct Appropriate at all times (PDA, courtesy, conduct with other cadets/staff) Inappropriate and they will be sent home Forbidden items (contraband, iPods, cell phones) (All cell phones will be held by MSgt Thiergart) Communication Very, very limited – don’t expect calls every night – best chance Thursday) MSgt Thiergart cell phone: 513-276-2824 Lt Col Runchey cell phone: 937-212-2763 Parental contact 24-HR (need good number)

  5. 2013 OHIO VALLEY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (OVLS) Physical fitness Daily (required to try) Physical Fitness Test (Friday) Long days and nights Graduation Awards (DGs, top cadet, etc) -- Composite score based on Uniform Inspection, Room Inspections, PT Test, Academic Test – Specifics in Cadet Guide -- Top Cadets Recognized Picnic (No guests) Receive academic grade and 1 full credit for successful completion Return to Springboro HS Saturday/15 Jun/approx 2100 (you will be contacted for pick-up)
