WARM UP • OPEN your NB to the last blank space • If you DO NOT have a NB, take out a clean piece of paper or continue on the piece of paper from the day before • Part 1: Write 3-6 sentences about what science means to you. Use Sections 1-1 and 1-2 for ideas. • Part 2: Use your imagination, and describe in 2-3 sentences what it would be like to be a scientist

  3. Class Business • Notebook Setup: Review • Warm Up in the back • Assignments in the front • You may leave them in the box if your homework is up to date. • Outline 1-1 Due Tomorrow – Check the Web • Outline 1-2 Due on Monday – Handouts by the door • LISTENING SKILLS part 1 due on Monday

  5. Today’s Assignment • In your NB: • Open to your next blank page • No NB? • Use a clean page, do not use your warm up • Title your assignment: • Writing a Hypothesis • DO NOT WRITE ON HANDOUT

  6. LETS PRACTICE! Practice makes permanent, not perfect • Complete the back of your handout with the person sitting next to you, or by yourself. • If you finish early, work on homework • Rules: • Ask three before me (Mr. Hagen) • Do not let the next table overhear your conversation • If I (Mr. Hagen) can speak in a normal tone, the class should be able to hear me.

Current Events • 2/ 5 week grading period • You may use them for any missed assignments (such as a video) or extra credit. • One paragraph summary • One paragraph your reaction to the article • Why is this article important to you • Must be relevant to Biology • Must come from a newspaper (you may get it online, but it must come from a real news source) • i.e. LATimes.com, NYTimes.com, CNN

  8. HOMEWORK • Outline 1-1 Due Tomorrow • Quiz on Thursday (1-1, maybe 1-2) • Outline 1-2 Due Monday • LISTENING SKILLS Part 1 Due Monday

  9. Mr. Hagen’s format for making outlines • You must use two colors • You must use large headings • Include Examples • Include References to Figures • Draw pictures when appropriate • Indent for each new idea and group similar ideas under the same bullet point
