  4. Some CMS tools – integrated into Portal Quiz Builder minimally useful Minimal LMS interoperability between tools Faculty in general not very advanced in their thinking around Instructional Technology ~ 10% of the faculty are now users of Instructional Technology Our Campus

  5. Pilot Sakai for SY2005-2006 Launch to full campus - Fall of 2006 Problems: Need Scaleable Assessment Tool to replace our Quiz Builder. Need Gradebook equivalent to our Gradebook Need Sections capability for large classes Our Original Plan

  6. Continuing to Pilot – through fall, 2006 Planning to Launch Winter 2007 Conditions: Must have a Quiz / Assessment tool Must have a Gradebook with similar functionality as ours. Must have Sections Sections will be addressed in fall, and hopefully Gradebook as well. Our Current Reality

Born around 1988 Bhutti – first female Islamic President Movies: Beaches, Who stole Roger Rabbit, Die Hard Access to technology and computing all their school lives – “Always on, Always wired…” A new learning style ? Need to move forward to teach in a manner our students know how to learn… What Kind of Learners ?

Supporting a suite of new applications: Sakai, Breeze, Almagest, Pod/webcasting Collaborations for Support of Sakai: IET-Mediaworks, Teaching Resource Center, Classroom Technology Services, IT Express (Help desk), Professional Schools etc. Supporting hybrid course development Initially targeting early adopters and new faculty (annually). Instructional Support at UCDA Collaborative Affair:

  10. 10-12 faculty pilots Primarily instruction Faculty Mentoring Faculty Program formed Pilots are Founding Members… Content Developers Group Non-Faculty developers ET Partners’ Program Undergrad Students providing Support Instructional Support – Phase I

  11. Hired rSmart to do demonstrations to faculty and staff panel evaluating the system. Hired Unicon to do training: Train the Trainers (ET Partners, Faculty Support Group) Train the Faculty Pilots Our Staff Training Co-ordinator then took over Sakai Training. Training – Phase 1

  12. Fall, 2006 with 30-40 Pilots Emphasis on Research Sites Faculty Mentoring Faculty Program Role ET Partners – ad hoc, by appointment IT Express – help desk – phone & email Faculty can use Sakai for Instruction, if willing to work with us as a “Pilot”. Sakai Support: Phase II

  13. GENERAL SUPPORT: Help Desk (“IT Express”) email, phone ET Partners Program In-office support – ad hoc / appt. Departmental partnerships – if no tech support to dept. Online Help: Sakai course on using Sakai Tech Tips, Captivate demos Sakai Support: Long Term

  14. TRAINING / HELP: Classes: By Function / Tool Combining Pedagogical reasons for using tool, along with technical training Research / Project Sites – Pulls them in for Instruction. Mentoring: Faculty Mentoring Faculty Program Sakai Support: Long Term
