THE APPLICATION OF THE MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS NATIONWIDE WEST ZONE table is shown with the millennium objectives and goals, with the goals of the Poverty Reduction Strategy in Honduras and the objectives of the JICA program: Local Capacity Building in the West Zone. GOAL, PURPOSE AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF PROGRAM GOAL: Contribute to improve living conditions of the poor population of the West Zone of Honduras.

MAIN PURPOSE: Support the application of Millennium Objectives and Goals, within the framework of the Poverty Reduction Strategy, contributing to the development of the west zone and making emphasis in local capacity building. • Objective 1: Strengthen institutional capacity of mancomunidades, municipalities and communities so that they can be able to address their own development processes. • Objective 2: Support and improve social and economic development processes of the population at mancomunidad level. • Objective 3: Support the increase in coverage and quality of basic services addressed to the population in mancomunidad territory.

Reduce poverty in 20 percentage points Objective JICA program : Support the improvement of social and economic development processes of the population. •  Construction of social and economic indicators, measure every 5 years •  Improve technological levels and productivity potential oriented to the market • Increase service capacity and care of the touristic population

  16. Objective 2: Achieve universal elementary education PRS Double the net coverage of pre school education in children of 5 years. Achieve net coverage of 95% in the two first years of elementary school Achieve net coverage of 70% in the third year of elementary school Achieve that 50% of emerging man force complete high school degree Objective JICA program Basic infrastructure, environmental and pedagogic conditions in health and education services have been provided and improved. • Construction of social and economic indicators, measure every 5 years • Projects elaborated for the construction and improvement of education centers • Study on coverage an quality of education in the zone • Requisition for the donation of tools and equipment for vocational centers negotiated • Availability of training centers increased

Objective 3: Promote gender equality and empower women Goal4: Eliminate gender disparity in elementary and high school education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015. OBJECTIVE 7: ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY PRS Achieve the a 95% access to drinkable water and Sanitation Implement strategy for sustainable developmenet • JICA Program • Population accomplishing environmental norms and reducing the incidence in damage on the environment. • The coverage of water available for human consumption has been increased

  20. Goal11: Having improved considerably, by 2020, the living conditions of at least 100 • JICA Program • The coverage of services of electrical energy has been increased and the productive activity has been diversified due to its use • Project and/ or project for the rehabilitation of youngsters in communities designed and negotiated.
