  2. WHAT IS AN INTENTION SHEET? Intention sheets are the forms that students complete to let the school know what courses they would like to take in the next school year.

  3. WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT? • Firstly, you need to choose certain courses in order to graduate and to enable you to reach your chosen post-secondary destination. • Secondly, your selections help determine what courses we will offer in the next school year.

  4. IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS • Intention sheets (grade specific) • “What do you need to graduate” (reverse of intention sheet) • “Not Returning” form (grads only!) • Course Calendar (booklet and online) • Recommended & Pre-requisite Course List (poster) • “Having trouble choosing your courses” (poster) • Credit Counselling Summary (student specific) • Intention sheet instructions (handout)

  5. LET’S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

  6. POINTS TO PONDER • All students must choose 8 credits—exceptions may be discussed at your counselling session. • Keep in mind that many courses have pre-requisites—courses that must be taken in advance. See poster in classroom or flowcharts in Course Calendar for more information. • Your destination, interests, skills, and abilities will determine what courses you take and the level at which you will take your courses: - Academic leads to University - Applied leads to College/Apprenticeship/ Workplace - Essential leads to Apprenticeship/Workplace.

  7. THINGS TO THINK ABOUT • Co-op Education – counts as two credits • Co-op Education – does NOT count towards your 6 U/M level courses • ESL – see your teacher for level recommendations • Ontario Literacy Course (OLC) – must have had the chance to write test at least twice

  8. WHAT IF? • I failed a compulsory course in Semester 1? • I fail a compulsory course in Semester 2? • I want to reach back or reach ahead to take a course? • I’m graduating or have graduated and I’m not returning? • I’m not graduating or haven’t graduated and don’t plan to return? • I don’t have a home room?
